Power problem on lx200gps telescope

I have a LX200gps 10",4.2g software, that has a power problem. It is setup permanently in a dome. A couple of days ago I turned the unit on and found that the power light did not come on and the hand control display leds were on, however no information was displayed. Also the hand control did not function. I measured the incoming voltage and it was about 15vdc. I removed the control panel Board no.(2001LX200BSE 15-3516-00-REV E) The board has no fuse on it. I metered the resistors, diode, and capacitors and found no shorts or open readings. Any ideas would be great

If it's an electronic problem --- there are several folks on the Yahoo LX200 Group that can repair the board-- go there and ask for "RON"---

You should be using a stable 12 volt power source. The only other thing to check are

Get a temporary replacement for the hand controller and see if that works-- and-or get a low cost replacement hand controller cable from www.scopestuff.com and try the old controller with a new cable --- usually one of the capacitors is fried.

I have a meade lx200gps 10" scope. The ra up is not responing. the down is working only. After initializing and fining north the auto star says stalled motor.

Do a calibrate motors and make sure you are using a separate 12 volt power pack or BRAND NEW internal batteries. All goto scopes work better with smooth, regulated power. The internal batteries will NOT work well for very long.

The Calibrate motors routine adjusts the motors for the power supply being used.

My LX200GPS fork is blocked and cannot rotate manualy while the RA lock is loose. Could anyone help please?

This is a major project. You will either need to return it to Meade for repairs, or be ready to almost completely disassemble the telescope to get to the motors.

Contact Meade first:

When I started to make the azimuth motor rotate, it rotate, suddenly it stopped and warned me.. motor stalled.. With a message of what cold be the causes, but I can restart all the process without moving...

First, always use a seperate 12 volt power pack and NOT the internal batteries. Do a Calibrate Motors -- first thing whenever you turn on the telescope.

Meade LX200GPS 8" won't initialize on power up.

Try doing either a garbage collect or a safe load-- and then reinstall the hand controller firmware--

Instructions-- depending on the type of controller
Autostar 495 or 497: You enter Safe Mode by holding the [enter] and
[scroll down] keys pressed when you power up the telescope. The
Autostar will say "Flash Load Ready"... now go start the ASU.

Autostar II: if you need to use Safe Mode to recover from a disaster,
turn on the telescope, and key 999 before it says "Initializing"
The Autostar will say "Flash Load Ready"... now go start the ASU.

LX200gps: BEFORE proceeding further, click on the OPTIONS item on the Top Bar.
Now click on "Garbage Collect Hbx" ... this will perform data cleanup
within the Autostar which will avoid potential mess-ups.

Meade LX200GPS telescope

The front panel for the telescope has an internal fuse. Remove the screws and look at the circuit board for a fuse. Replace with the same type and rating. The telescope has a diode with the fuse that gives some protection against reverse polarity, and the telescope should function on this fix.
