Sounds like a short circuit, check all connections and check that it will work as set up. Some will only work as a mono(i.e. you use 1 caannel not a combination of both) could also be a loose connection. Also if the head unit is off, the amp for the sub should be off. Is the amp wired to permanant live? If so this will cause this. Wire to electric aerial switch on head unit.( there will be a live wire and a switch wire on amp).

I have a ken wood aftermarket headunit. I was always able to plug in my usb and play music through us now I hooked up my subs and when I pulled the headunit out I didn't disconnect any wires or anything...

You didn't give much detail on model of unit, etc. However I remember vaguely from my wife's KW DVD/Nav unit, that the USB port can serve one (and only one) of 2 purposes. One is as an "uplink" to firmware (I think, or maybe it was some sort of remote control, been too many years), the other is what you want, as an "accessory" USB port. It sounds like that setting might have gotten changed while doing your setup. Download the manual for your specific model number from Kenwood and it should have details there.

My amp won't play bass everything is hooked up

I have a similar problem with my 2012 civic, I hooked up my 1800w kenwood mp to my 2 12" w6s and 1 song plays and sounds great, the rest of my songs have no bass from the subs, just the car speakers sound normal so I dont know what the hell thats all about. I thought it was a wiring issue but I can play the one song all day and it sounds perfect so any suggestions? thanks in advance

I have hooked this up to a working reciever that

Fill in the blanks about the working receiver.

You mention another subwoofer, which suggests your receiver manages the bass and possibly sends most or all of it to the sub.

If it's NOT sending the bass to the speaker terminals you use to drive the AM5 that would explain it's virtually silent bass module.

If those speaker terminals on your receiver can be set to LARGE, do it. Otherwise they assume the speakers are incapable of handling bass.

No sound from my logitech z4 subwoofer

Is there sound coming from the 2 speakers?

Subwoofers are designed to only play bass, you shouldnt hear much acoustic sound coming from it at all.

The best way to test that is to play a song with a good amount of low bass, see if you hear it coming from the woofer, or can you feel the woofer vibrate?

If there is a hole in the side of the woofer box, when you are playing the song is there any air coming out of that hole to the bass line beat?

I dont know how you have your wiring set up, but if it still isnt working please check to make sure that you have the wiring plugged in properly.

If there is anything else I can do to help please let me know. I hope this fixes your problem.

Subwoofer Trouble

Turn the bass gain all the way down., Turn up your your volume on bass test song. Crank up the little box next to the steering wheel wide open . Now go gradually turn up the bass gain on the RF amp until you get distortion. Turn the gain down slightly. Now you can enjoy playing the bass from one end of the little boxes setting to the other without ovrloading your amp and subs. Open a can of whoopass on anyone who tries to crank up on your gain.

Subs will go off the wall with bass, but not in tune with music.

hi, first disconnect the rca input, then switch on headunit and if the amp produces a constant bass thump it then means it has an internal fault. if the amp idles quietly then replace the rca cable, or try connecting the headunit lineout feed directly to the bass amp, in this way you cud find out if your fault is coming from the headunit or the equaliser. cheers

Intermittent Problem

One thing that comes to mind is you said the heatsink had come loose. if this was the case and it was the heatsink for the output transistors. Then this seems to be the best place to look for a broken solder joint. When either the unit heats up or vibration. One of the legs to one of the transisters opens this would case a half wave cycle drop. Do not know if I would consider the sound it would make as static. But it would become very garbled. get a bright light a slowly look over the circuit for broken solder joints use a magnifier if you have one. also wiggle the wires and tap on the circuit with something non-conductive like wood or plactic see if you can make this cause the condition. This may help narrow your search. Check as well on the top of the circuit look close at the transistor leads, because flexing back and forth can case them to break if flexed in the right place.
