If the HD on your Dell 5150 Dimension is an original Dell one, you don't need a boot disk. Hit CTRL F11 at the Dell Splash Screen on power up, you will enter into the restore screen. In less than 1 hr you'll restore your PC to original factory settings. My Dell 5150 DM does not come with any factory restore or boot disk when I bought it new. Dell wants you to pay for them in Canada. In the US it's free I think. Give them as call. They need that TAG # on the case of your PC.

Does it have a Microsoft sticker on the case giving you a serial number and product type: 2000, XP Home , XP Pro etc

If it has one then you need to find a buddy with a copy of that software and hope that it is compatible with the version you have on your system.

If not then it is off to the shop for a fresh copy

I have a dell dimension 5150, and when I turn it on to start it just keep rebooting on its own. I tried to put my OS disk and it does nothing. What else can I do?

how far does it get? if it doesn't post, then the problem is with the motherboard and/or a system fan not functioning.

I need to reboot my apple imac desktop but i dont have any disks

Tell your uncle he's an idiot. The disks are an integral and essential part of the system. Without them he's given you a door-stop.
You are going to have to find the correct disks on eBay.
Good luck.

Dell dimension 5150 sleep mode

Perhaps, not the best solution. However, it should get you going. Hold the power button for 15 or more seconds. The machine should then power down. You should then be be able to reboot. If that does not work, remove the battery and the power cable. Reinsert and then boot the machine. Make sure that you let it scan the disks to fix any disk errors.

Dell Dimension 5150 probably software conflict

you will need to get hold of a full copy of XP off of a friend, as the copy that prob came with your pc will judt format your pc and start again. Dont worry about codes as your should find one at the side of your pc. you just need to make sure you get the right copy i.e. xp home or Pro.

When you have the disk put it into the pc then reboot, your PC should be set up to boot from CD if it is you will be asked to press any key to boot from CD, if not then let me know. you will now get a nice blue install screen up and a few options just carry on (dont select the console recovery as you theres an easyer way). now your PC will start looking for copys of XP installed on your pc, this is where your want to select restore XP (r button).

this will now copy over your old copy of XP but this will mean that you will not loss any programs or files.

Please be careful if your get up the options to format your PC then you will loss every thing. just reboot and do it all again. :)
Hope this helps. If you get stuck let me know,

you will now need to do a full

Recovery disk

Hi jaspa - this is how it works:

To use PC Restore:
1 Turn on the computer.
During the boot process, a blue bar with www.dell.com appears at the top of the screen.
2 Immediately upon seeing the blue bar, press <Ctrl><F11>.
If you do not press <Ctrl><F11> in time, let the computer finish restarting, and then restart the computer again. NOTICE: If you do not want to proceed with PC Restore, click Reboot in the following step. 3 On the next screen that appears, click Restore.
4 On the next screen, click Confirm.
The restore process takes approximately 6–10 minutes to complete.
5 When prompted, click Finish to reboot the computer. NOTE: Do not manually shut down the computer. Click Finish and let the computer completely reboot. 6 When prompted, click Yes.
The computer restarts. Because the computer is restored to its original operating state, the
screens that appear, such as the End User License Agreement, are the same ones that
appeared the first time the computer was turned on.
7 Click Next.
The System Restore screen appears and the computer restarts.
8 After the computer restarts, click OK.
If this solves your problem PLEASE rate this as fixed. If it did not or you had problems, DO NOT RATE YET, just add a comment letting me know what happened and I'll be happy to assist you further. Thanks.
