Have you tried running the machine with the battery removed?

If there is a short on the battery it will be pulling a lot more current than it should which makes the connectors get hot as they try to supply the demand

You need to first rule out a bad battery, which seems very likely based on your description. Pull the battery and see if it will run straight off the power supply. If so, replace the battery.

If that doesn't do the trick then you probably have problems with the system board that will require either replacement or some mad soldering skills.

If you have those skills and interest, www.laptoprepair.com and www.laptoprepair101.com will give you tips on how to replace the power port on the motherboard, as well as, potentially, service manuals for your model.

Good Luck!

Acer Aspire 4830T battery behaving vaguely.

Are you using the provided charger, or are you using an after market "Universal" charger?
If you're using a universal charger, it could be charging the battery too hot and the computer just doesn't understand why the battery is putting out more than the system is expecting.
It could also be that the battery is wrong type. The voltage may be the correct, however the Ah may be too high. This being the case, the computer doesn't understand what why the it's getting a higher Ah reading than it's expecting. The system can not reason that that if it detects more amp-hours than the it should have that it has that much more charge time. It just sees "ERROR" and since you're dealing with a system function that is designed to prevent loss of data the default action is to shut down to prevent loss of data.
You may be able to fix by resetting the Power Management Options. Unfortunately, with out doing test on the machine, it is impossible to tell. I could be software or hardware. If nothing else works, try replacing the battery again.

Do you still have the old battery. If so charge it, and see if it charges properly. If so then you have a bad battery.

My toshiba satallite p200-1ee laptop is not charging. Battry life left: 40% When on: The Charging light blinks 3 times every few seconds and the screen dims with it. When off (But pugged into mains): the...

If you plug the charger into the computer without the battery and the laptop runs fine, then I would suggest to you that your battery is failing and will no longer accept the charge. On the other hand if the laptop will not stay running or acts strage and the screen dims and gets bright, then I would suggest to you that the charger's built in voltage regulator is failing and will damage the laptop if it continued to be used. A bad charger will also permenently destroy the battery condition.

Gateway screen flashes bright and dim

Usually the connection is one wire down the middle and their is another wire wrapped around it.

You can try to do a soldering job with heat shrink material around it, but if you don't know the procedure, it can damage the laptop.

Look at the charger and the amperage it needs as well as the voltage. You can actually just buy a new one as little as 80 dollars.

Toshiba Satellite laptop won't start

From Toshiba Manual:
"Over a period of time, and depending on the usage of the
computer, the brightness of the LCD Screen will
deteriorate. This is an intrinsic characteristic of LCD
technology.
Screen will dim when the computer is operated on
battery power and you may not be able to increase the
brightness of the screen.
"
Try pushing Screen contrast to Max when on AC charger connected.
Allow several hours charging battery with PC off.
If battery does not completle charge Or if older than 3 years CHANGE it.

Ok on your keyboard there should be some way to adjust the brightness just plug in the laptop and adjust it to what you want then unplug the laptop and adjust it to what you want and it should keep that setting. if that does not work you can check the bios settings some laptop bios' have a brightness option.

Acer 4520 light going dim

Normally the way it works is if you plug in your AC Adapter to a laptop the computer screen will Brighten up since its no longer running off of battery and is actually charging . The reason why it should go dim is when you unplug the Ac adapter it goes dim to save battery life and last longer. If you are getting a really dim you can check and make sure that the Ac adapter jack on the adapter or motherboard isnt loose and it could be having contact to the unit and be loose inside and every small movement causes it not to charge / charge in and out and would cause this Dim effect. Again this depends on how old the computer is and I dont really think its the LCD or backlight going bad but you can try to mess with the screen brightness and If im not mistaken on that model it should be the FN key and the Right > and Left < Key for lower and higher brightness. Give that a try and check the adapter connection and you can pin point the issue . Hopefully it doesnt come worst to worst which could be a bad LCD going bad or damaged lcd internal cable. Hope my answer helped guide you closer to a solution.
