The dip chip is going bad....With the dlp chip, there are tiny reflectors which open and close to display light. At some point these little reflectors begin to get stuck open causing the dots.....Good news: can be repaired. You can order the chip, and do yourself if you can use a screwdriver, can follow directions, and have a little time to spare. Otherwise your local repair shop can fix it. The chip itself is under$200, + Labor at a shop. Maybe you can either buy the part and pay labor, or see if you can get a deal if they do everything.
I suspect you have a DLP TV. The problem is the DLP chip. The mirrors are stuck and the DLP chip needs replacement. Mitsubishi does not make a 72" TV so that is why I suspect its a DLP type. It is not user repairable and there is no trick to get around it. You need a repair person or a new TV. (get a new TV trust me)

I had the exact same problem and the fix is easy to do. Unplug the TV first of all and wheel it out so you can easily get to all of the rear screws.
