Question about Cuisinart DCC-1200 Coffee Maker

Water leaks when I fill and preset the night before.

Any solutions? We have the same problem, with our last two DCC-1200 Cuisinarts! Within a year of purchase, they began leaking water before the brewing process started. On the first one, we thought it was our fault and bought a new one because we love it otherwise. But now, within the first year, suddenly a cup or two of water leaks out. It's still under warranty, so I'm going to call the manufacturer. Wendy from Florida

I recently had this similar problem. If you still have you machine try the following.
Your described problem may be one of two problems. Let's start with the easier solution first. In the DCC 1200 there is a filter "stick or column" in the left rear. Pull it out and remove the clogged carbon filter(s) that are in there. Shine a light into the receptacle and remove the debris in the bottom. It is likely that this is causing the problem with you machine needing to be started on multiple times. See if this solution works. If it does, you might run 8 cups of water and 4 cups of vinegar through to help decalcify the units plumbing. Do this once or twice and then rinse with at least one pot run-through of clean water. If this works then you are good to go.
Next, if this does not solve your problem we can do the following: unplug the unit and lay it on its back. You will need a #10 torx driver (hardware store if you don't have one) to remove the bottom cover plate. There are 4 torx screws holding it on. When removed, you will find 2 orange hoses. Carefully attempt to remove the left hose without splitting. I used a eyeglas screwdriver to loosen it up. If it splits, just cut off the split and stretch it to reconnect when time comes. As you look into the hose you will find a little black valve inside as well a some gunk. Clean it all out with a fine wire as best you can. Rinse well. Attempt to reconnect the hose back onto the pipe. Slip the pipe clamp back into place. Replace the cover and screws and you should be good to go again. This is not as daunting as it may seem.     Hi,
    My Coffeemaker long out of warranty leaked. I followed the instructions above and found, that the cold water tubing was brittle, evident in it breaking right away when being removed. I lost about 1/2-3/4 inch, but then simply reattached it. Brewing right now. If it still leaks, I will simply have to get the right kind of tubing to replace it. Thanks for the tip.

Make sure that when you do the vinegar solution, you do at least 4 cups of white vinegar, and fill it up the rest of the way (max fill line) with water. The manual says to "fill to capacity with a mixture of 1/3 vinegar and 2/3 water," which lots of people misunderstand, and think it means "1/3 CUP vinegar and 2/3 CUP water," which is not the case. It means 1/3 of your 12 cups (and 1/3 times 12 is 4 cups) of vinegar, and 2/3 of your 12 cups (aka, fill it up the rest of the way) of water.

You might have to let it soak for an hour before you try to brew it--this lets the vinegar work at the calcium buildup a LOT better (kind of like soaking your pots and pans before you try to clean them), but it should definitely work for you. If not, call Cuisinart's tech support (1 800 726 0190) and they might be able to get you a replacement :)

Machine shuts off during brewing

This is a really common problem with the cuisinarts. I am most familiar with the DCC-1200, but you may be able to solve the problem. The may be an indication that something is plugged up. Open the top of the unit and in one of the corners you should find a water filter stick or column that is removable. Pull it out and open it up to clean out the clogged up carbon filter in there. (You can later buy a new filter on Amazon.) Clean out the debris from the bottom of the cavity. Replace the stick into the cavity once cleaned. Now it's time to run through a solution of 2 parts water and 1 part vinegar. Do this once or twice with fresh solutions, then with a pot of fresh water. My problem is delayed brewing with my DCC 2000. Sometimes when I turn it on to brew it does so right away, but usually it delays for up to 45 minutes.

Won't turn on ... just like the other 13 people indicated on this web site. It worked intermittently for awhile and then just stopped.

Cuisinart DCC-1200 BW Model leaks by morning if I put water in the night before to have coffee made by program. More water on the counter almost as in the pot. Any solutions? Bought 4/5/07


Order 1 foot of 5236K73 "High-Temperature Silicone Rubber Tubing" from McMaster-Carr. Put the old check valve in the new tubing in the same location and direction as originally installed.
