Thanks Chris. I am talking about the 2.5, the small palm size one like the one in the post picture.

I already did the USB calble test and none of the three I tested worked. I get the same result, boots up, lights the blue button and thats it. I tried the HDD on other PCs and I got the same result. I am now trying my luck with the people at the shop. I'll get back with any updates. I appreciate your help. If you have any additional usful steps to follow please send it to me.

    thanks

As you did not specify 2.5" or 3.5" I will give you both sets of steps:

If it is a full sized hard drive and requires power, it may not be getting enough power, have the AC adapter tested at a computer shop. If it is dead/dying replace it, if not move onto the next step.

Try a new usb cable, also available at most computer shops. If the new cable works at the shop try your old cable as well. If the old one doesn't work, buy the new cable, problem solved if it does work the problem is either in the caddy or your computer.

Assuming it's in the caddy, now have the people at the shop swap the HDD from your shell into a new one and test the drive again, as with the above if it works you're done. If it doesn't the problem is internal to the actual HDD. Time to buy a new external drive and send the old one for recovery if it has any crucial data on it.

Let me know how you make out and if needed I will provide additional steps. Also if you need data recovery help let me know your region and city and I will recommend an appropriate facility.

Thanks for the clarification, a lot of people post under the wrong items so I like to verify.

Sounds like you've worked through a few of the usual steps. Let me know how you make out with a new enclosure. If it fails to give results let me know along with your region and I'll get you in touch with the pro's.

If it does work, just let me know and please don't forget to rate the solution.

yes you could simply format the harddrive in Fat32 using your macos that would be the best solution but don`t forget to backup your data by copy pasting the files on your mac or something else and after that to move them on the external hdd again to be available on the windows machine

CPU won't read it im running xp

Ok, here's some step by step instructions.

First is the light on the nexstar coming on when you plug it in, if so what colour? If not try using both USB connectors on the PC end to plug in, it's possible you're not getting enough power if the light is not on as many 2.5" hdd enclosures require 2 USB connections one for power and data and the other for additional power.

Next, if the light is on but no drive in my computer, right-click on my computer, then left-click manage, select disk management from the MCC window that pops up. If your Nexstar HDD shows up here, identify it on the bottom part of the window and report back what is said there.

If it is not there and the light is on, try a different USB port. If the light is not on or you tried the other ports and still no luck the enclosure itself may have failed.

Try moving the HDD into a new enclosure and try again. If this works, Great, if not then the HDD may be damaged and may need a pro to get your files back. If that is the case report back here with your progress and region and I will recommend an appropriate pro.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Chris

1- Go to Computer Management, Click Disk Management
2 - You will find you External HDD in the Right side
3 - Just Right Click the Drive, if it asks Initialize HDD, just Initialize and Create Partition as u like.
