Question about AO Smith 1 1/2 HP 115/230V 56C Replacement Motor

Start Capacitor wiring diagram needed

I have an old AO Smith water pump, model:C48L2DA5A1, motor: SKCET52ABN that the capacitor blew out in. When I took the cover off the yellow wire coming from the thermal protector was off, and I removed two other wires from the old capacitor forgetting to mark them. Besides the yellow, there was a short red that attaches to the switch, and a dark (dirty) wire coming from the interior windings. The old capacitor showed signs of three wires being attached to three of the blades. My question is, which two wires are paired on one side of the capacitor? The pump is wired 230, and has a start capacitor only. I've looked for wiring diagrams but can't find any that match this old of a motor. I use it for watering the garden only (vs city water) and would love to get it going again since it's a workhorse. Thanks, David

When hooking up capacitor on a pump it doesnt really matter which way the wires go. The capacitor is set up in such a way the it supplys power wherever the wires are hooked up. I hope this helps

There should be 2 yellows and 1 red/white wires. The 2 yellows are paired.

I have an A.O Smith SE2F01 115/220v Type C electric motor, it has 4 wires: White/Black/Blue/Red, I want to know which is which? And Does it need a capasitor?

Wiring diagram appears on side of unit.
With wire colors.
Capacitor: each electric motor has a run-winding and a start-winding with capacitor.
Both windings receive power.
The start-winding gets a surge of power from the capacitor > and this starts the motor.
The run-winding brings motor up to full speed.

Century 1081 wiring to external capacitor

You are correct in assuming Hayward won't be of much help. A.O. Smith used to be original equipment on several brands of pool pump motors. Over the years Century/Magnatek took the business away from A.O. Smith, so A.O.Smith bought Century!
Most pool pumps have a 1081 designation on them. It has been a while but I think that means it is rated for continuous duty (24/7).
I'd call a local motor shop, they rebuild these things all day long.

You didn't indicate exactly what AO Smith motor model you have, but most likely it's Capacitor start/run if it doesn't have a switch. The important thing is to replace with the same MFD as the old so you have the same starting characteristics. Take off the rear cover as to expose the capacitor. Remove capacitor. Place a 7/16 wrench on the shaft threw the opening where you removed the capacitor. Put a rag on the impeller and with a wrench turn it counterclockwise. It should come off easily. Make sure you replace the seals before reassembling

OK, locate the terminals on the capacitor marked "HERM"(Compressor lead), "FAN", and "COM".(common)

HERM and COM remian as they are.

The wire going to "FAN" (usually brown) will be placed on either terminal of the new capacitor. (This is the ((usually brown)) wire comming off of the fan motor.) An additional wire needs to be run from the other terminal of the new capacitor to the "COM" on the old capacior.

What you are doing is bypassing the fan side of the old capacitor but still using the compressor side of the old Cap.

The fan should have a wiring diagram on it to help identify the wires if there is no brown wire. The other two wires will be identified on the wiring diagram as well, but one typically goes to the contactor and the other to the board.
