You could try a very weak solution of acid and water mix making sure not to scratch the blade, when the stain is removed smear a film of light oil over the blade hope this helps smirf617

if they are collectors knives i would send them out to be done by a professional cleaner.just search google they are everywhere. a very simple solution is a product called BRASSO. it works just as well on steel and is great for removing oxide.brasso, some scratch free towels and some patience and the stains will come up.also if stains are very heavy you can go with a very high grit
wet and dry sandpaper something over 3000grit.grits this high wont scratch the steel.when done leave a lite coat of oil on the blades. hope this has helped.

Stuck CD

Hi,

Tricky one...

I've had success in the past by using a thin knife blade, or metal ruler (a medium sized pocket knife works well)... Stick a small square of double-sided tape on the blade/ruler... IMPORTANT! Very gently slide the blade/ruler into the slot, do so at a slight angle so you first clear the edge of the disk. Then gently, but firmly, press the blade/ruler down on the disk so the double sided tape sticks... now press the 'eject' button on the keyboard (or the go to Finder and select the disk and click the eject icon), at the same time try to gently wiggle the blade/ruler outward to assist in removing the disk!

Good luck!

How to choose the right knife for your camping trip

depending on what your plans are for the uses of your knife you will first want to pick either a folding knife which are smaller and can be put in your pocket easy to carry then you have nonfolding knifes that have sheifs which need to be on a belt or put in a backpack pocket there bigger then a folding knife and thicker blade then a folding knife a non folding knife are mostly more stable then folding knives you dont have to worry about the blade folding down on you fingers but most folding knifes have a blade lock just remember when choosing your knife make sure its comfortable to use and not to big bigger is not always better and dont forget a good sharping stone when camping your knife is your life

I have alot of Case pocket knives and the blades on some are starting to become loose and have too much wiggle when blade is out. How can i fix this

Tony:

I have tapped the bolster pivot pin with a small hammer to tighten loose knife blades, but you have to be careful not to scar the knife or smack the bolster pin too hard or the blade will seize and be hard to open or close. If the pin has been necked by the blade (worn in the middle where the blade contacts the pivot pin, you'll have to replace the pin.

I just ordered a peg support piece that supports a glass shelve and drawer. the old peg will not come out of the fridge and i am afraid i might bust inside wall of fridge. any ideas?

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
The peg has a lock tab on it. It may have 2 tabs but you use a putty knife or a knife blade to push the locking tab(s) toward the center of the peg stem to release it. I have had to use 2 putty knives and diagonal cutting pliers to release some of these. The putty knife is used to keep from scratching up the inner cabinet. A short thin bladed knife like a pocket or paring knife works best to unlatch these. Sometimes you have to release on side... hold it at an angle and then release the other side. Also....... you can warm it up a bit with a hand held hair dryer to make it easier to move around and release the lock tab.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

How do i remove face of interchangeable watch?

This is called BEZEL you want to lift off. Take watch case opener (or just a pocket knife), insert the blade between case and bezel, then carefully pry up bit by bit, going all around the case. Make sure you are pressing blade in while prying up the bezel. This will not let knife to slip and scratch the watch. Rate me, plz.

I have a cheap pocket watch that needsa new battery, and i do not know how to open it. does not look like the kind of back that wil pop off, could it be a screw on type?

Pocket watches are 99% with the back snap-on/sanap-off opening. Never came across the screwback. Get the knife with the solid blade, insert the blade in the groove between the case and the caseback and push it in quite hard using lever action (pry up). At the same time make sure the blade do not slip into the movement, as it will damage your watch.
If there is no groove between the case and the caseback, then watch must be opened by removing bezel (metal ring holding glass in place). Open the same way as for the caseback, just be VERY carefull, as any slip of the blade will leave the marks on dial.

Pocket watch stem is broken.

To open the front, try a toothpick in the hole. You will need to get the stem replaced.

To open the back:
Flip the watch over and look around the edge. There will be small slots. A thin blade like a pocket knife will open the back cover. Carefully, put the knife blade into the slot and twist it open. There isn't much user serviceable stuff inside.

How do i open this old pocket watch?

You just use a knife or if you have a swiss knife its better. The cover of your pocket watch its like a clip look at the side of pocket watch there is a marker its like pinch mark put the blade of the knife push it then twist to open .When open already try to watch out not touch it the coil (bronze color) its very sensitive, when touch its easly to break causing to malfuntion. When battery is already change going to close look the gasket for properly place.

Hope it may help you

Opening an elgin pocket watch

The best tool to do it is watchmakers knife, but any proper knife with hardened steel blade can do the job. Make sure the blade is NOT flexible.
Check carefully the sides of your watch and you will notice the groove. Place knife blade into that groove and press it in. At the same time try to make a scooping turn to lift the caseback. Usually there must be underlayed caseback as well and it opens exactly in the same manner.
Make sure you do all this carefully and do not let the blade to slip or your watch will end up with nasty scratches or even damaged movement.
That job isn't a big deal, but requires some skill, so, BE CAREFULL.

Forerunner 305 won't charge

Question: My Edge or Forerunner 205/305 won't power on. Is there a soft reset that I can do?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From the Garmin web site.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Answer: If a Forerunner or Edge 205/305 is unable to power on, a soft reset can be performed to un-freeze it. This will not erase any user data and is most effective if the device is connected to the computer while performing the reset.
To reset the Forerunner or Edge 205/305:
  1. Connect the device to the computer using the USB cable
  2. Press and hold the mode and reset (lap) buttons together for 10 seconds
  3. Release and wait for 3 seconds
  4. There should be some indication of battery charging (either Finished or In Process)
  5. Power the device on while keeping it connected to the computer
In addition, please make sure that the device has the latest software version
