Valve in broken on my 30 inch jennair gas cooktop control knob. Do I also need to replace the manifold to fix this?
Repair person suggested I replace the whole unit because of the expense of the valves (have to replace all 4 as they come in one package not separately) and the manifold. Around $600.
I agree with the individual who made that suggestion. Fixing one section may work, but other conditions could arise and in the end you will pay the price then. You can look around for the best price and I am certain you could get a better deal. After all, the cost you mentioned is 1/2 the price of a new Jenn air.
I would go online and look for repair parts from e replacement or similar type pages and byuy the valves there.Perhaps this is something left to repairman. Natural gas leak. may cause damage or *****.

You may have to hold them down whilst turned on to intitise s flame then release the knob the flame should stay on as the fsd has proved to the gas tap there is a flame so will stay on
you have two choices here. if you wish to repair the knob and you have both parts just get a tube of one minute epoxy at any hardware and "glue" the knob back together.
Pull off the knob and then see if you can push the shaft in. If you can, then the knob is hitting something, preventing you from being able to push the knob in. Adjust the knob until you can push it in. If you can't push the shaft in with the knob off, then the control valve is broken and you will have to replace it.
Sounds like water got into one of the switches. This usually happens when you wash the knobs. Water stays in the holes and runs down the shaft when replaced. Maytag has issued a recall on some stoves because this can be a fire hazard. UNPLUG THE COOKTOP UNTIL THIS IS FIXED!!!!!!!!! This has happened to me with a whirlpool unit and it tripped a breaker and shot sparks across the kitchen. First go to Maytags web site and see if yours has a recall. If so Maytag will fix it free. While you are waiting leave stove unplugged and light with a match. If you need to fix this yourself disconnect the wires from the two switches this should stop the sparking. Connect one switch at a time and see which switch is bad. Most of the time the electric part of the gas valve can be replaced seperately. and you can do this yourself. If you must actually disconnect a gas pipe unless you really know what you are doing call for service.
The selector knob having lose contact the elements are for full adjument , the wire connection are rust and corroded need to clean terminal of elements.
