Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Freezer not freezing and blowing luke cold air. Fan running full time.

Have a Kenmore side by side model 10657762791 made in 03/98 so it's only 11 years old. The problem we are having is the the freezer is not freezing and the it's blowing semi-cold air into the freezer. The refrigerator side is luke warm. The fan in the back seems to be running full time. We have unplugged for several hours and plugged it back in and it started freezing again but several hours later it not freezing. Is there anything else we can try?

I have a 23' free standimg dispensing side by side ref. my ref is not cooling but the freeze part is working

when you open the freezer door do you hear the fan blowing?all that happens is the evaporator coil in the freezer gets cold, the evap fan blows the cold air from the freezer and into the fridge side, there are ducts on the bottom left side where the air return sto the freezer,if that's blocked the fridge will get warm, also if the fan is blowing depending on your model you could have a damper,it's in the fridge section up top where the cold air blows into, all it is is a door that opens and closes to let the air in when the fridge section gets warm and then it closes when it's cold enough,if the damper is bad it won't open and let the air in,sometimes it gets stuck in the open position and things start to freeze in the fridge section.if you can't figure it out send the model number and i can see what model you have, open the fridge door, look up on the right side near the ceiling and you should see a tag with the model number.good luck and have a great weekend.also from the bottom up in the freezer, remove the second bin of food and touch the back inside wall of the freezer,if there's frost or like snow on the back inside wall of the freezer you have a defrost problem, let me know what you find.

I have a side by side Kenmore that is in our basement. Does not get too cold by any means, maybe 65 degrees year round ambient tempearture in teh storage room it sits in. 2 months ago we put a quarter of...

yes it sounds like your only problem is that the evaporator fan is not operating so open the freezer door and see if you hear it. if you do not hear a fan running in the freezer make sure that the other fan in the back and the compressor is running. just replace the evaporator fan in the freezer and that should do it

Model 106.54512300 freezer is not freezing food,

Check the obvious, the coils underneath need to be cleaned, and the fan needs to be running. And check to see if there is a heavy frost on the back wall inside the freezer. If there is it could indicate a defrosting problem. Both will cause the temperature to rise. Also, be sure the fan in the freezer is running.

I have a brand new kenmore elit bottom mount freezer and the fridge part keeps freezing food. I have it set at the recommended settings. I have already replaced this fridge once because of the same issue....

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

Refrigerator side temp keeps dropping below freezing.

Set the freezer temp control to MAX cold and see if it improves.
If not replace the off/on thermostat.(cold control)

HI,

if the compressor is running your ref. should be getting cold. Their is a defrost timer but when it is in defrost the compressor shuts off. I think you do have a leak.

Side by side freezer works fine ice cold.fridge not so good. only at 57 degrees

Listen for the fan motor to run. Open the freezer\ push the door switch with your finger \ listen for the fan that blows the cold air to the fridge. only the freezer side gets cold...fan blows cold to the fridge side. If the defrost timer has broken then ice may be blocking the flow of cold air to the fridge also. Only 2 things to check. Good Luck
