Question about Computers & Internet

Faded laptop screen, but fine with external monitor

The screen is a bright faded colour. It is as if I turned up brightness to the max. Everything is thus really hard to see since my mouse is white and most websites are also white. Also as you move the mouse left or right their is a ''trailling'' mouse effect and takes time for the screen to recognize where the new mouse is. When I open up any program this same ''trailing'' effect occurs. Its not a ram / other problem I believe, because I've attached the laptop to an external monitor and am working with an external monitor. It works fine.

I can't imagine why this would happen since I have never dropped this laptop and barely take it out. (Just move it from my table to another table in the house every now and then). Anyways its only 1.5 years old and I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me on this. I would be so very grateful.

My specs from my computer --> properties:

windows vista 32
ram of 2038
intel(R) core (TM) duo cpu t2450@ 2.00ghz 2.00ghz

It says I'm a HP dv2000 (GA480ua#aba) but a sticker on the bottom left of my laptop says I am a dv2432ca. Also the sticker on the bottom of my laptop says this is a dv2432ca. Not sure which is more helpful...

Wow thanks for the quick replies.

To leecom72, there is no trailing effect on my external monitor. Think of it like my external monitor + laptop = perfectly working computer.

Take away the monitor and you have a lap top that is very faded. Read below I address more accurately what the trailing effect is like.

To 06castwo, this is not a brightness issue. I know this because the first time this problem showed up, I was trying to figure out what was wrong with it, and out of nowhere, the colour popped back to normal and the faded/trailing effect disappeared.

It is almost as if my laptop was loading the ''screen'' and once the screen was loaded everything was processing to it instantly. Imagine if my laptop screen required input from the cpu and then imagine the input was somehow delayed. That explains the trailing phenomenon. Every process was working fine in the background, but my laptop screen was having trouble displaying it to me instantly. Essentially it was displayed at a delayed speed and also displayed in a faded light.

(ps In any case I tried changing the brightness to confirm it was not the issue and yes, its not the issue.)

Thanks again for the help though I really appreciate it, please keep offering ideas / solutions. Thanks!!

    Hi there.
After reading your post i see that it works fine on a external monitor and that the mouse leaves a trail behind it. Does this trailing effect happen on the external monitor too?

Your screen is most likely set at a high brightness, which can be fixed by turning it down. To turn the brightness down, press "fn" and "f7" at the same time. keep pressing and releasing until the screen's brightness is good! If you make it to dark, then press "fn" and "f8" until it is lighter.
Hope this is a help,

I have a compaq paserio notebook and when I boot up the computer, either I get a blank screen or I get a very faded image that I can't hardly see so I can't log on. Most of the time I just get a blank...

Have you checked the brightness options for the screen using the HP function keys? Fn +F7 or Fn+F8 should adjust the brightness of the screen for that C306 model laptop. If adjusting the brightness has no response then try the next steps.

What happens if you turn the computer off, plug it into an external monitor or projector, and then turn the computer back on? If the video displays correctly on a computer monitor or projector, but it stays dim on the LCD screen of the laptop, then the laptop LCD Screen Back-light or inverter is probably going out. You'll need to contact HP for a replacement part or take the laptop to a certified repair center.

Poor Colour images/gray/faded etc...

This may not be the solution but its worth a try to asking you. Make sure the player is not too cold. LCD's like to be at a comfortable room temperature. Good luck.

My acer monitor image is faded and washed out

Adjust contract and luminosity: decrease contrast, see how it goes.
ACER monitors tend to have control settings that are out of the range for proper viewing.
