Question about Hayward 1.5 Hp Northstar High Performance Pump

1 Answer

I cannot get the pump to pump water, motor still works.

Have changed o-ring on on filter and collection basket. Does not seem to want to buid pressure even the navigator stop working Water was leaking from out filter basket housing, we replaced the O-ring as well but it still squirted water when we turned the pump off. When we turned the pump back on the pump made a small thump and then stopped pumping, only the motor runs.

Sounds like air has gotten into the pump and froze the pump. It will need to be replaced due to that reason. You can get a repair kit for the pump but it will not be gaurenteed to work

Replacing the pump is easy. Just make sure that water pressure is turned off and the breaker switch to all electrical is off. Once you get the new pump look at the wires and make sure that the wires from the old one go on directly to the new one the same way. The worst part is probably the wieght of the stupid pump.

I have a 2007 Bostitch sir compressor that will not buid pressure. I am able to repair my self, I just don't know what to replace or adjust. Any info will help. Its a model CAP6OP-OF. Thanks

Your compressor could have worn cylinder /ring, worn/ leaking/ or broken reed valves or just leaking at a joint (check for leaks first using soapy water). Oil-less compressors have a silicone /vinyl compression ring that wears out quite easily depending on conditions at the job site (dusty/ gritty etc). Remove cover and turn motor till the piston is at top of stroke. Look for scratches close to top of cylinder, if present, replace cylinder and compresson ring to restore full power. If cylinder is smooth, and ring looks ok from the bottom than loss of power could be reed valves. Remove head and examine reeds replacing as needed. Good luck

I have a swimpro sand filter it is 5 yrs old and this season when i started it up it doesn't seem to have very good pressure i have backwashed it three times and it wont even run my pool cleaner no...

If there is not much pressure, the problem is with the circulation system. Probably the pump.
When a sand bed gets old the pressure goes up on the guage, but the filter doesnt do much. When there is a lack of pressure, its due to a problem with the water flow. Usually a clogged impeller, strainer basket, or skimmer basket.

The most common solution for a loss of pressure is to dissasemble the wet end of the pump, clean out the impeller, and replace all o-rings and seals, including the shaft seal. This will revitalize the performance of your pump.

Water is leaking from the side of the filter basket

The basket is probably not lined up any longer because of the pressure used to place the filter in the basket. Where you attach the basket to the machine, there are posts on the top and bottom. I had to put a small rubber rod behind the bottom post to make the top come back in line and that stopped the leak.

Help low pressure in pool pump and filter

I can relate so well to your problem. My pool is surrounded by pines and deodora trees... all the needles seem to find their way through the baskets, strainers and into the inlet of the pump. It became a daily routine of having to reach into the inlet and clean the debris if I wanted a filtered pool.
Here' s a solution that will work!
Purchase an extra debris scoop ...the kind you put on the pole and scoop debris from the bottom of the pool.
Cut the net out of the frame and wrap the netting around the skimmer's debris basket and secure it with an oversized rubber band or zip ties, then replace the basket back in the skimmer.
Your skimmer will keep the debris out of the pump!
This will make a world of difference in your pump's pressure!
Give it a try and see if you're not working better!

Is the pump leaking water? If you lost the prime or are having trouble priming then there would be an air leak somewhere on the suction side of the pump. Poor suction would interfere with the sweep. One way to ell if the pump or suction line(s) are leaking is to examine the inlet basket once the pump is primed. Any air left in there after a few minutes of operation once primed would indicate a leak in the suction/pump.

My Kreepy Krauly is working at half speed, any ideas? I've checked the tubing, no visible leaks, flapper works. Seems to pull air into the filter even after tubing is full of water. Both baskets clean.

Are you using a skimmer plate with the regulator valve or is connected direct to wall? Do you have a valve near pump that allows you to select skimmer or main drain or other input port? If so, select only skimmer. What is the pressure on your filter? Filter may need to be backwashed.

Generally, if the filter loses pressure in the filter mode, you have an air leak somewhere. When the filter is low on pressure, check your pump basket area. If there is air in the basket, that is the problem. It could be a bad o-ring under the basket lid, or the air release on the valve, but it will need to be found. Check for drips around the equipment also.

Behind automat(machine side ) it gets clogged with grinds. Clean it with air hose. If that don't work, change the o-ring on automat.
