I would try resetting your unit before calling tom tom to get it repaired.
view the following image
"I" is your reset button press and hold for 15 seconds or until the unit resets.

My magellan Roadmate 5220-LM powers on but will not go past the first screen. I have tried to use the reset button but it still will not work

Hello Liz, You may have two problems. If your unit is several years old, the battery may need to be replaced. First charge the battery overnight. To get the screen unfrozen , you need to remove the screws on the back, open the case, and unplug the white battery connection . Reconnect the battery connection after a few seconds. If this works, it is usually a temporary fix . Either your battery does not hold a charge or your charger connection is poor at best and can not deliver a full charge to the battery. It could be both.

Hi! The touch screen on my Garmin nuvi 660 is not working. On boot up I can't get past the reminder to update map data screen. I have updated the unit software and tried to recalibrate the screen. As is...

Try to remove the battery and re insert it back in to see if it will work. Or hold down the power on/off for about 15 seconds, that should do the job.

If that does not do it, then calibrate the screen, to calibrate the screen, screen calibration do not just work once you do it, you have to do it over time for it to work. Ensure you are calibrating properly. These are the proper steps to follow when trying to calibrate the screen:
  1. Turn off your nuvi,
  2. Press your finger on the upper left corner of the touch screen,
  3. While holding your finger on the touch screen, turn on the nuvi.
  4. Continue to hold your finger on the screen for about 30 seconds until the calibration screen appears(white screen with touch dot),
  5. Then follow the on screen instructions.
Try this repeatedly till you get it to work. If it does not work, then it means there is an internal problem that need to be checked by a repairman. That should do the job for you.
hope this helps.

For the moment, I'm assuming that the "first screen" of which you speak is the Garmin logo on black, with some startup status indicators at the bottom. You can attempt a reset by turning the unit off (using the slide switch), then sliding the switch all the way to ON and holding it for 10 seconds. (Some models have a reset button on the bottom, but I don't think that applies to the 255W.) That will cause the software to be reloaded from the saved copy (just like rebooting from disk).

Good luck.

I can't get past the opening screen. Tried the soft reset, holding switch for 10 seconds, both on and off. Can't get to screen for hard reset.

Base from the description of your problem, there;s no way we can perform a hard reset on the unit since there;s no reset button on this particular model, the problem here is a corrupted software and can only be resolve by taking this unit to a service center for repair.

Turns On but not past the loading screen

Hello :

I recommend you to reset your RoadMate .

To reset your RoadMate please follow these steps :

1: Locate the button marked "Reset" on the left, right or bottom of the unit.

2: Using a thin object, such as a paper clip, depress the button for two to three seconds. The unit should reset.

3:If the unit does not reset, immediately press the button again and hold it for up to 10 seconds.

NOTE : Please don't attempt to perform a factory reset on the Roadmate or Maestro GPS units by holding down both the "Reset" and "Power" buttons. This will cause the GPS unit to format its own hard drive. Doing so will erase all data, including the GPS software, from the unit.

This solution should help with your problem . If that didn't help , then I recommend you call Magellan service for help .

My 775t gets hung up at 23% when calculating a simple route

look for a small hole in bottom of unit. insert a small pin or paperclip and hold down for 15 seconds. try turning on again. Are you sure you have the correct set of maps for europe? you may need to manually switch to the correct map set as the unit may not switch automaticlly.

Garmin 2730 touch screen has failed. cannot get past first screen

My 2730 would not calibrate. I saw this on a forum and it worked like a charm.

1) Fill a bowl or sink with warm water and a small amount of neutral soap. AJAX worked for me!!!!
2) Turn the SP2xxx screen down towards the water and immerse the front of the unit in the water.
3) Using a *soft* toothbrush, *gently* clean around the frame edges of the screen. With care, the soft bristles should dislodge any foreign object that may have become lodged between the screen and the unit case.
4) Rinse the front of the unit under running water.
5) Gently dry the outside of the unit with a soft towel or cloth.
6) If desired, leave the unit in a warm airing cupboard overnight to completely dry out.

Hook up the unit and try it out! All reports I've read elsewhere reported that the touch screen worked again after this process. If it fails, you were going to send it back to Garmin anyway so you haven't lost anything by trying it. This worked and I plugged it in right after with hair drying on cool for a couple minutes.

There is a tendency that the unit is not properly charge try to charge the unit for 3 to 4 hours by using a wall adapter and after 4 hrs press and hold the power button for 10 seconds then release.

Garmin 178C Boots up then shuts off

Check the pins at the connector on the back of your unit. Make sure one of them is not bent or broken off. One of the pins on mine is missing about 1/16" of the tip. My boat repair shop says it's the power lead, but Garmin wants $200 for a generic repair.

Invion 3v506 will not load

Try first unplugging all cables and let it rest for a while.

Keep the start button pressed for ten seconds.

I will check if there is an alternative way to reset your unit.
