Question about ASUS Computers & Internet

Got BSOD on my XP computer and have traced it, I think, to the video card - getting "no input signal - going to power save". Would this prevent to computer from loading or going into safe mode?

I had preciously blown the system clean and reset all the components. What is the probability that inserting the video card into another computer to test it would damage the machine I am using to test the card?

Yes, a bad video card could prevent the computer from starting at all. Your monitor is going into power save mode because the computer isn't sending a video signal. This could be due to many things, power supply, memory, video card, processor. Try blowing all the dust from it and reseating all the components.

How do i get my thinkvison to get out of power saving mode

I do not know how many Thinkvision models are out there, but here is a site that offers manuals you can read online or download.
This is just a page from the manual I found. Here is a link to the manual I found. http://www.manualslib.com/manual/91948/Lenovo-Thinkvision-E54.html#manual
THIS MONITOR WILL APPEAR TO BE NON-FUNCTIONAL IF
THERE IS NO VIDEO INPUT SIGNAL. IN ORDER FOR THIS
MONITOR TO OPERATE PROPERLY, THERE MUST BE A VIDEO
INPUT SIGNAL.
This feature is designed to conserve electrical energy by reducing power
consumption when there is no video input signal present.when there is no
video input signal present. When there is no video input signal, this monitor,
following a time-out period, will automatically switch to an OFF mode. And the
LED will turn orange. This reduces the monitor's internal power supply
consumption. After the video input signal is restored, full power is restored
and the display is automatically redrawn. The appearance is similar to a
"Screen Saver" feature except the display is completely off. The display is
restored by pressing a key on the keyboard, or clicking the mouse. Lenovo ThinkVision E54 User Manual

Samsung Monitor 192N light turns green when powered on then goes out after few seconds

this usually means the monitor is not getting a signal
  • i would check the hdmi/dvi/vga cable connections dirk_s.jpg
both on the back of the pc and on the back of the monitor.

  • if the connections are tight, and plugged in well, maybe try and connect it to a second computer or laptop.
    • If it works the problem probably lies with your gfx card in your computer (verify this by trying another monitor on it)
  • If it doesn't work on those i would try and replace the aforementioned cable (usually pretty cheap)
  • if the problem still persists the monitor would probably need to be replaced as its defective.

What is the "Blue Screen

The Blue Screen of Death is as it is. A problem has been detected on your computer and windows has shut down to prevent damage to it.
An example: You over-clock your video card and it's working so hard that you eventually see the Blue Screen of Death. It shuts down your computer because the video card is on the verge of quitting. It's there as a safety precaution because if it keeps working as it is, you will run into some serious problems with the hardware device at fault.
But let's say you're just working on your computer and all of a sudden you get the Blue Screen of Death. Nothing you've done should have prompted it, but it's there and it's serious. There are numerous causes that could present this, but to be more specific...

A) Your Power Supply isn't providing enough power to your computer. Upgrade the power supply.
B) One of your RAM Chips are starting to go. To figure out which RAM Chip it is, you could download a Memory Test program in Windows, but the easier means to do this is to open up the computer. With the computer open, take out one of the RAM chips and try turning on the computer. If you still see the BSOD, put that RAM chip back in and take out another one. Do this until you find the faulty RAM.
C) Your processor is starting to fail. A processor needs to work, but most likely what will happen when the processor quits on you is your entire computer locks up, rather than receiving the BSOD.
I could go on and on until I've indicated every piece of hardware inside your computer but I think you've got the gist of it now. :)

Trying to load windows xp. Screen says, no signal

"No signal" means the cord from the computers video output to the Screen input is not connected or loose. If it is hooked up proper and you are still getting the "No signal" Msg. then the Video card output is bad.

Entering power save

The reason why your secondary monitor is showing no input from computer is because of the display resolution of your graphics card, which is higher than what the Monitor can handle.
What you can try is, when your system is powered up, just go to your display settings, then reduce the systems display resolution to--preferably 800x600, then go to where you normally select the output, and select 'Output to external monitor"...this should send the signal input to the monitor.
I have actually dealt with a no input signal before, and this was what I did.
Hope this helps.
Goodluck!

The screen will not come up but gave this message 'No input signal, go to power save

To isolate the problem, you need a friend with another computer since right now, we don't really know if the video section (or card) of the PC is at fault or the monitor.
You need to swap displays with someone so you can be certain what is actually not working.
The monitor is obviously capable of scanning inputs for a signal and not finding one.

Power light steady green but monitor goes dark after 4 secs of video

The video card in the computer could be going bad too or the driver for the video has corrupted. Try reloading the video drivers in the PC first.
