Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

I own a five year old Whirlpool side by side refrigerator. Last week my house experienced two power failures in the matter of a few minutes. Ever since then, while the refrigerator appears to be cooling and making ice etc. it makes a buzzing noise (for lack of a better word) every few minutes or so. Any ideas what the problem could be? Thanks

This problem sounds like the compressor or the relay going bad on the unit. You can pull the fridge out and feel the top of the compressor if it is very hot to the touch then the compressor is bad, From there you go to the relay and make sure that it is operating correctly and is not fried. If it is that can be replaced. The compressor on the other hand would cost you more to replace then a new fridge. Also electric companies will pay you back for having a tech come out and looking at the system or if it is fried they will help get you a new fridge ASAP

My refrigerator cut off then back on last nt got up this am and its not getting power at all, outlets are working fine all over the house

Hello Mike, thank you for allowing me to assist you!

Let's try resetting the refrigerator by either unplugging or flipping the household circuit breaker. It is important to wait approximately ten minutes and then turn the unit on. If you do not hear the compressor running, then the issue may lie with a sealed system issue, such as a faulty compressor, start relay, or the evaporator fan not turning. If there is absolutely no power, then your appliance may possibly have a potential wiring failure, damaged power cord or control board. Typically these are not simple DIY jobs and these parts are commonly replaced by experienced service technicians. You can often locate a qualified service provider through the manufacturer website.

Best regards!

My product is Whirlpool Top Mountain Refrigerator. I bought it in August 2006. The freezer is working very well, however the fridge is not cool. Can anyone tell me what's wrong with my refrigerator?...

LOOK into the vents of the back of the FREEZER section...

If you can make out the vanes of the evaporator

you are experiencing a DEFROST CIRCUIT FAILURE.

Decide what your issue is...

Both are easy to fix...

but you will have to do a FULL DEFROST to get another week of service... if your DEFROSTis failing.

Fod spoilage... and water damage are a concern.

Do it YOURSELF... (I love refrigerators).

Freezer stopped cooling, less than 1 year old

Due to being less than 1 year old , you need to call a Whirlpool factory authorized service center for repairs . This repair will need to be done under warranty . You could try unplugging for a few minutes and then plug back in to reset the electronics .

Whirlpool ED22PW water not reaching ice maker or front dispenser

It doesn't matter if a whirlpool or any other brand is new or not, if you don't use an inlet water filter the water will taste like **** and sediment will deposit and cause catastrophic ice maker and water dispenser failure.

Whirlpool refridg side by side

This sounds like the compressor is bad. The clicking sound is the start relay trying to start the compressor and cannot. You stated that it was only four years old. Check the warranty for your frig. Most carry a five year warranty on the compressor.
