Question about KitchenAid KTRC19MKSS Top Freezer Refrigerator

Kitchen aid refigerator: door won't seal then lost power.

I have a 13 year old kitchen aid (top freezer) refrigerator (in the garage). Yesterday the door to the refrigerator stopped sealing (spontaneously, it will seal if I give it a "hard" close, but will not "self seal" with a softer swing). This morning it has lost all power (we've checked the main circut breakers, but not anything on the fridge other than the plug). Any suggestions

The GFI had becme stuck - yes we had plugged the fridge into the GFI which is apparently a bad thing to do. Replaced the GFI (and moved in away from the fridge) and all is well.

  1. check gasket
  2. check the light switch on top of the refrig. section. If then pushed the switch turns the light off, but the light is still on with the fridge door closed - door needs adjustment.

Compressor runs continuously, and center bar (heat dissipator) is extremely hot to touch.

Molly, The hot bar is a normal part of the sealed system (compressor) operation. The relay they told you about is on the back of the compressor and I would not recommend you changing that. The refrigerator is a balanced system, the freezer air removes the heat from the refrigerator side. If the compressor runs all the time, look for food close to the edge and not letting the doors close completely. Move items back. Don't over pack the freezer, the air must circulate. The refrigerator of today runs longer and uses less power that the old refrigerator. If you are still having issues with this model call a authorized Kitchen repair person in you area and ask how much they charge to come to your house and give an estimate.

Kitchen Aid KSRJC Overheating

There is a heating cable that runs down the door in most fridges it might have a relay that is fussed closed and the heater is always on. I would strongly recommend that you get someone out to look at it as all electrical faults can be quite serious if they are not treated.
A domestic refrigeration tech should be able to fix it for you.
