Question about Brother GX-6750 Typewriter

1 Answer

Lift off tape

I was typing along and tried to correct an error. The lift off tape had been working fine. It will not lift the mistake up off the paper. We've tried changing the lift off tape but it still will not work. It is installed properly and is the correct type for our machine, which is a GX-6750.

Does the tape lift up far enough for correction? If so check to be sure the dull side of the tape is facing the paper. Then be sure you are using a correctable ribbon, the feed wheel should be either yellow or orange. DickyO

I installed the correction tape and it does not correct

Sounds like you have diagnosed the problem. Remove the correct tape and make sure that it's not the "sticky" type. (it will be hard to unwind if it is). Next try to manually lift the part that's supposed to move to see if it does. If it's sluggish (hard to move) put rags around it to prevent over spray and carefully clean all the moving parts with WD40. Make very sure that the WD40 does not get on any electronic parts! It will also mess up the platen. So, the more rags around the moving parts, the better. I used to work on IBM typewriters, and WD40 sometimes works wonders.

I recently received lift off tapes for my nakjima typewriter. We have no user manual. I cannot get the ribbon and lift off tape to correct my errors. Please help or tell me if I am doing something wrong...

The ribbon may be noncorrectable, the knob must be orange or yellow. The lift off may be very old, or not properly installed, the dull side must face the paper.

Error 45 on Precor EFX 546 Elliptical

Precor Error 45, Lift Moving in Wrong Direction Probable Cause 1. Lift motor hysteresis.
2. Lower PCA is bad.
Corrective Action 1. The error would usually occur when the lift was already in motion (usually downward) when a lift command in the opposite direction (upward) was made. Some lift motors used in production exhibited a very long turnaround time and the lift motor would still be moving in the original commanded direction while the control system was trying to move the lift in the opposite commanded direction. If the error continues to re-occur, replace the lift motor.
2. It is a rare condition, however if the lift moves in the opposite direction commanded, replace the lower PCA.

Correction Tape

Two possibilities, one the correction tape is twisted and the wrong side is .facing the paper. The shinny side should be facing you, the dull side facing the paper. Second possibility you must make sure the ribbon is compatible with the correction tape. There are 2 types of ribbons. A correctable one (orange or yellow knob) and a multi strike (blue or purple knob on ribbon cartridge). The lift off correction tape (orange or yellow spools) only works with the correctable ribbon and the cover up correction tape (blue) works with the multistrike ribbon.

Brother ML100 Lift-Off Correction Tape won't lift off

Correction tapes DO have a shelf life, Also make sure the ribbon is moving and very important and this may sound dumb, but I have seen it that the ribbon is not a correction ribon. Are the spool turns orange or yellow? should be. Blue is multistrike and will not correct. Don't know the shelf life of ribbons but they do loose the ability to correct.....Good luck try new supplies..
