Question about Computers & Internet

I own a Hitachi external drive (Easy Drive) for back-up purposes. It has worked extremely well until yesterday. I absent-mindedly turned of the drive before disposing of the Hitachi icon. From then on, the drive has been on, cycling to find a computer. I get a message from my MAC Mini asking me to choose a WIRELESS device--an AirPort router. In my finder, I search under Devices to select the Hitachi external drive, but it is not available. All that's there is my computer drive. How do I get the Hitachi icon back in the finder so I can select it and sleep well tonigh? Thanks, Chris

Thanks, the new driver sounds great, but you gave me a link for Windows. I'm on a Mac. Can you steer me?

    Thank you.

Hi,

Please download and install the latest drivers for the same.

http://www.bestdrv.com/hitachi_cdr_8130_driver_15573.htm

First uninstall any software that u might have installed previously and then install the drivers freshly downloaded from this site. If the drive is fine then the operating system should detect the drive . Incase the drivers are corrupt this download will take care of it as well.

Thank You for contacting Fixya.

I dropped Hitachi external drive...

If you have no backup and your drive is damaged, that is it, no data.
Plug the usb in with your drive, leave your computer looking for the drive. If windows, it may take some time. If Mac it won't be long. If neither can see it, the TOC is damaged and it will need a computer engineer to try and recover the drive.

My hitachi HTS545032B9A300 320gb usb external hard drive cannot be detected by any pc

click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager look through all of your devices if you see a yellow question mark?or exclamation mark ! or red x
right click to reinstall drivers or

if you can see your usb but its not working
ports(com&lpt)right click update driver

if this fails to fix the problem

check usb leads for secure dust free seating

sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable

just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again,

check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems

hope this helps

if this fails to fix the problem
you might have to install a usb 2 or 3 card they are cheap and easy to install you can buy these on Ebay very cheap

hope this helps

My hitachi external hard drive dropped yesterday. There are no cracks gone on outter surface but my external hard drive now doesn`t read. As well as now the different internal sound is hear. But lights are...

Try to open the casing and disconnect the mobile harddisk inside from the connector. Then put it back firmly. Make sure nothing is loosen. If it still does not read, just plug the harddisk to a different enclosure to be able to retrieve the data

Hi, yesterday my hitachi external hard drive is fallen to the floor and after that it is doesn't work. but the lights are working. i want know can i take my old data from hard disk and can it...

Dropping hard drives is a sure way of damaging the drive. There is no way us mortals can repair a damaged hard drive that has been dropped.
Retrieving data fromdamaged hard disk is possible. There are companies that can remove the diskplatters from the damaged hard drive and with special equipment may beable to recover your data, but it will cost you an arm and a leg for theirservices. The reason for this high cost, they dismantle and remove the plattersin the hard drive in a clean room environment and set up the platters up injig/drive to retrieve/copy the data.

How do I use the Hitachi ST/500 GB?

Firstly, you needed to tell us that this is an external hard drive, otherwise, how do we know..
Next, this drive plugs into a USB port where it will be detected by the operating system and added as another hard drive in your "my computer" and "windows explorer" listings.
Once the drive is added, simply drag whatever files you wish to place on the drive, onto the drive listing to copy them to the drive.
You can also use the "send to" menu item where the drive will also be listed.
select the file by right clicking on it, select send to then select the drive in the list that appears, easy..
dont place any operating system or everyday files onto the drive except for backup purposes.

Hi, I have a simpletech/hitachi signature 160 gb external hard drive. It was fne until yesterday. Suddenly, my laptop is not recognizing it. what do I do?

Connect it to a different computer.
If it works, then connecting to _your_ computer is the problem.
If it does not work, then either:
* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the casing has failed, or,
* the disk-drive inside the casing has failed.

Open the case, and remove the disk-drive, and connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in your computer, to see if the disk-drive itself is "good" or "bad".

Google-search for "Data Recovery Services" -- these are commercial, high-cost, companies, that can temporarily repair a "dead" disk-drive, just long enough to try to copy all the files from the disk onto a new disk-drive.

You can download utilities from Hitachi here - http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm You didn't say which drive you have, but one of the utilities there will allow you to run diagnostics on your drive, format, and partition it.
