There is a short inside th steering column that concerns the multi function switch and ignition assembly that should be inspected asap. this could cause a fire so, i would get this looked at or repaired very soon.

Suggested repair is to re wire the entire column asap.

sounds like you got some wires shotring, did they check wiring? remove column panels and inspect wire contacts, plugs and harness for signs of scorchining or arcing or burnt insulation, repair as nessasery

the problem is your signal light switch circuit board is worn out. Ive replaced that same part cause i was having the same problem. Then i had to replace my steering column for other reasons and now guess what .......MORE SMOKE!.

Janice, there has been an electrical short in the steering column wiring. It may be wise to unhook battery at this point to prevent further damage or fire.
Have vehicle inspected and repaired at a reliable shop.

You have a Shorting wire, you will have to dismantle the steering column to trace it. Disconnect your battery and do not drive it until you get it fixed.

The smoke will be an over heating wire from a short in the steering column. Take it to an auto electrician and have it checked out

you have a shorted out wire somewhere in ur steering column to check this ull have to have the steering wheel pulled which is not a easy task without proper tools and a puller or have to replace column i would disconect battery till problem is sovled as may catch fire and if eqiuped with air bag could set that off in ur face ...good luck
