Machine error 46 ("Unable to clean")  means that the waste-ink "sponge" is full. If you've already checked for small paper part (which is very unlikely to cause this error message), the error is mechanical. Unfortunately, that's not something us users can change, but the machine would require to be sent to service. So if your machine is not within warranty, it'll most likely not worth the service cost, instead replacing it would be preferable.

How to Reset canon mx512 ink cartridge


To reset the Canon 240/241 cartridge low ink level monitoring in order to clear the ink level alarm condition and resume print operations, I suggest you first attempt the basic/universal ink level reset procedures before attempting any of the more advanced procedures provided on the Inkjet411 site*


A. Standard Ink Level Reset Procedure (printers without LCD display):

If you are able to produce a self test print, this is good since it illustrates that the cartridges are electrically stable...if you observe any 'E' or 'V' error states (i.e. E13 or V162 for example), this may indicate there is possibly an internal electrical problem with one of the ink cartridges. Refer to your user guide if E/V error messages are displayed.

*If, after following the suggested ink monitoring/level reset procedures, you still have an error condition which prohibits regular printing, then the ink cartridge probably has internal electrical damage (micro-electronics failure); such a failure is unrelated to the ink cartridge refilling process. To verify the Canon printer is functional, install a brand new cartridge in it - this will 100% confirm whether your refilled, compatible or remanufactured ink cartridge is faulty or not.

My printer is showing error no 46


The error message "Print Unable 46" is an indication that the machines ink absorbers are almost full. The ink absorbers hold liquid and dried ink after it has been purged from the print head. These absorbers can control enough ink for the expected life of the machine.

There is a possibility that this message may have occurred in error. Upgrading the firmware of the Brother machine may resolve the issue. Follow the procedure below to determine if a firmware update is required:
-if the display screen is displaying an error message, press the STOP/EXIT key to change the LCD to the main screen.
-press the # and * key at the same time. The first 2 characters on the top row will determine the ROM version.

If the ROM version is OE or greater (example: OF, OG, OH, etc), the firmware does NOT need to be upgraded. If the ROM version is OA, OB, OC or OD, follow the procedure on this link to upgrade the firmware.

I have a printer problem, it is a Brother MFC-465CN. the lcd display screen is showing "Unable to Int. 48" can ou help please


This indicates a problem with the print head.

Clean the print head when needed by doing one of the following:

  • Press the Ink or Ink Management key and then select Cleaning. Or

  • Press the Menu key and then select Ink Management, Cleaning.

These cleaning processes do consume an amount of ink.

Ink not showing when printing


You may need to perform a head clean especially if the printer hasn't been used for a while.

The following is for XP but Vista and Win7 should be similar.

Click start/printers and faxes, right click on your printer ans select Printing Preferences from the drop down box.

Select the Maintainance tab click on head clean and follow that up with a nozzle check test page.

You may have to perform several head clean processes, once you get a clear nozzle check test page printed you should be good to go.

TIP use only one page for the nozzle checks as each check uses a page, Just reload the paper again until satisfied.

Unplug the printer from power cord.Press and hold the "menu" button, then plug the device.You'll see on the LCD screen a "machine error" code.If this code is 40,41,49 or 4F the print head is defective.If the
error is 50 or 51 there is error in Purge unit and printer require service.If the error is 48 - defective print head cable or circuit board.If the error is 46 the waste ink tank is full.Follow this:
1. Pres 'menu', 'mono start' then 'menu' one by one...
2. Press the arrow up or down to go to 'maintenance 80'.
3. Press 'mono start' several times to go to 'Purge'. Finding the PURGE will show some numeric value
which is Iassume the number of times the printer had cleaned.
4. Press 'arrow up' key and scroll for number "2" then press "set".Do the same for numbers 7, 8 and 3.
After you have entered this combination, the purge numeric value will be reset to 00000.
5.Restart printer

Ink shows empty when toner is not even close to empty


there is one thing that if you refill the cartriage and then use again then still ink indicator shows low ink as its' ckt is designed so.

there is no problem you can print easily.
your printer will show correct ink level when you put in new cartriage.

but remember one thing that if your printer stops printing and shows message on computer that no ink in cartriage ,, then you need to reset printer counter, (this resetting process is present in your printer manual)

so no problem in printing, it shows low ink because the circuit inside it is designed soo.

so that you purchase new cartriage.
(remember : you need to reset the counter , refer to manual)
