SOURCE: Display is not working properly

There are 2+ possibilities.

If the LCD went out after a bad fall you may have cracked the display behind the scenes where you can't see it.

If the phone has EVER been exposed to water or high humidity.... (even 2 years ago) then corrosion in the connector for the LCD may have grown to the size to effect the operation of the LCD. If you feel comfortable taking the phone apart and removing the LCD you may see the corrosion... you can clean the LCD cable with isopropyl alcohol and possibly help the connector itself using a few drops of isopropyl and a tooth brush. If you do not visually see any corrosion then don't clean it... it would have to be visible to stop the LCD.

These LCDs can go bad on their own but it's rare.

My 1740 handset volume was also low. As a shot in the dark I changed the speaker and it fixed the problem. I got a new speaker from www.panasonic.com .

SOURCE: Handset No2 displays out of range message

Please check that you have correctly registered the second handset to the base. It may be necessary to de-register the second handset and then re-register it. "Out of range" just means the second handset is not within range of the base phone it was registered to.

Lost pixels

For lost pixels on the phone's LCD, it needs an LCD replacement. Most phone manufacturer, they just replace the phone itself instead of replacing the LCD on your wireless phone.

My xda wont go passed the touchscreen set up I tryed resetting it but it wont work

The digitizer on top of the lcd display is most likely faulty, try a hard reset, if it doesn't solve the problem the digitizer would need to be replaced.

To perform a hard reset
1. Press and hold the Comm Manager button and Voice Command
button on the device.
2. Keep the two buttons pressed, and at the same time, use the
stylus to lightly press and hold the RESET button.

Change my display name

This is how I did it:
1. Press the 'Program' button 2. Then dial ** (star, star) 3. Enter the password (usually 1234) 4. Press 'Next' until you get to 'Ext Name' 5. Press 'Enter' 6. You will need to know the Extension Number of you phone, when you find out enter it (eg: 104 or whatever yours is) 7. Press 'Clear' to get rid of the old name then start entering the new name via the number keys. Note: If you keep cycling through the letter on each number you can get to lowercase or uppercase letters. 8. Press 'Enter' then you are all done... pick and hang up the handset.
