Question about Logitech X-240 Computer Speakers

1 Answer

My speakers seem to be stuck on a very low volume

I have a pair of Logitech speakers with a bass amp that have been working wonderfully for nearly a year, but then I moved and when I reconnected them to my computer, they didn't work properly anymore. When I try to play a song on iTunes, I can hardly hear a whisper of the music over some static even with the speakers at full volume. I checked to make certain my computer isn't muted and that the system volume is up. I know the speakers weren't damaged by the move, though, because they play just fine if I hook my iPod straight up to them. I have the speakers plugged into the "digital audio out" jack on the rear of the tower. And under 'Manage Audio Devices' in the Control Panel, it says that Realtek High Definition Audio Speakers are not plugged in and then under that it says Realtek Digital Output is working and set as the default device. Beside the Realtek Digital Output there's a volume bar that lights up if I play a song in iTunes, and the volume level stays very low - it never even reaches halfway up the bar. Thank you for your time.

I have a pair of linn komponent 104 speakers i was wondering if i can add a sub woofer to my amp to give the sound more bass as the speakers dont have a good bass sound

The Linn's should have a good bass, clean & tight but not boomy. Have you got them correctly phased? Red-to-red, Black-to-black? Bass is killed if one speaker is anti-phased.

I have this mission 782 for many years! It happen

It's bi-wireable (BUY-wire). Did it occur to you that may be a factor if you're using it that way? The jumpers (or lack thereof) on the back allow or disallow the amp(s) to affect all the drivers. You can tie any amp to one or the other pair of binding posts to test them.

Amp volume drop with flabby bass sound.

1) can happen if the speaker is dying - voice coil defective or magnet needs recharging. happens sometimes with low quality speakers.
2) faulty pre-amp section can reduce overall gain resulting in lower output volume.
3) for old amps dry solders in pre-amp & power amp section can have the same effect.
4) faulty coupling and filter capacitors can severely effect frequency response too.

Bass goes off when i turn up the volume

You need to install a heavier gauge wire to your amp and a capacitor. It works fine at low volumes because there is enough wattage from the battery to power the bass output of the amp but at higher volumes the amp does not have enough power.

Heavier gauge wire supplies more poer, and a capacitor stores a reserve of wattage for the amp to use so that it does not run out while blasting your tunes.

Subwoofer help

hard to tell whats causing this .Just curious make sure speaker wires going to subs are POLARIZED meaning positive from amp is with positive at woofer and NEGATIVE is with negative at woofer. When these are crossed and when volume is raised you will hear the bass cancell each other out..

My speakers sound flat with no highs at all

I am trying to work out if you have damaged the speakers and amp too.
Have you tried a pair of headphones on the amp? If they sound ok then your amp is fine.
Assuming it is, then speakers have what's called crossover units in side each of them. This splits the sound into three parts. Bass, midrange, treble. The bass is handled by the woofer's, the midrange by a middle sized speaker or or it's combined with a tweeter, which of course handles the treble.
Connecting a 1.5 volt battery across any of the individual speakers will cause it to pop if working. If the speaker then is not getting sound then the crossover unit is to blame.
When you look at the crossover unit, it will have coils and capacitors (non polarised) on it. The bigger ones deal with the bass and the smaller ones treble. If you find a fault say on the crossover of the speaker, for example no treble comes out of it. Then start by replacing the capacitors. Use the same value as on the capacitor and remember they fit any way round.
