Realtek Sound device problem

I installed realtek sound drivers (i dont know which ones was that) and now im getting some problems with my sound. My 5.1 speakers are always plugged in, but not the headphones. So I plugged the headphones in and the sound was still coming from speakers. Then i switched speakers off and plugged headphones in but there was no sound? If i want to change my sound device from headphones to speakers, i need to switch off the program or what ever i use then use speakers or headphones and then backup again on program. How can i fix it? sorry for bad english. Thanks for all answers!

Realtek is the name of the sound card in the laptop. You need to have realtek audio drivers installed to get sound. Sort of difficult to change out a sound card on a laptop- in fact mostly impossible.
get the Realtek driver and live with it.

We do have a sound card but we dont have a driver i want to install one but im afraid its not compatible with our pc..im im not sure if we are using windows xp or 7

Most modern sound chips use an AC'97 driver Go to www.realtek.com and download the driver listed in the support area of the web site. This driver should suffice. Windows 7 is a little more of a pain as many peripherals do not have Windows 7 compatible drivers as yet. At this stage, try the realtek website..

No sound Acer 6930 XP

Your machine does use the Realtek audio codecs. Try to download the version available on their website. You have two choices - a standard AC97 or the AC97 HD (you may want to try this one first) one of them should be compatible with your equipment.

NOTE: The drivers available from Realtek have a different version number with them but they are basically the generic drivers for AC97 devices.

check device manager desription, and error log.. if all normal (i know its sounds stupid) but make sure nothing ismuted, if there is the third parts realtek aidio manager there, make sure that hasnt muted anything.. if everything is normal and still nothing, try un-installing drivers completely in devce manager, restarting system, and re-installing them again..
