1. Make sure that the new wire is properly locked down in the advance roller. There are grooves in this and the wire must fit in the groove.
2. Make sure the wire is properly lined up to enter the gun cable (after the roller)
3. Remove outer shield on gun and the center tip and then advance the wire until there is a few inches sticking out, then slide tip back over the wire and install the tip and shield.

My welder won't feed wire it sounds like it's trying to energize but can't. A couple of times it fed through but wouldn't feed to weld so I had stick weld. What happens if the liner has a restriction?

first unscrew the tiny tip at very end of torch (can be hot)!! then try to feed wire thru handle, gently shake cable as you do helps to feed wire thru cable , if successful you have allowed the amps to get too high for the feed rate (slow) and melted the tip closed , these tips are replaceable from miller and are not expensive

I have a Lincoln power mig 216 and as soon as you strike an arc on metal my feed wire either kinks or breaks at the feed rollers and starts rolling out the side I have replaced the tip, liner and diffuser

Are there any kinks in the feed line from the spool to the tip that is causing the wire to not feed? Cut a length of wire and pull it though the feed line to see if there is a lot of friction in it, that would prevent wire feed. Finally, check the wire size - I know, but it is worth checking just in case.

Can not get the wire feed adjust speed checked feed potemeomiter and it checks good.Feed potemeomiter is soldered to the board looking for possible causes.

Hi, sometimes the wire gets stuck when feeding through at the copper welding electrode tip piece.. Try unscrewing the welding tip on the welding hand piece to make sure the wire is not getting stuck there. If the wire come through with the tip removed, then screw the tip back on over the wire. See if the wire will feed through a meter or two untill it hits the welding tip.

My welder feeds normal for the first 10 to 20 secs then struggles to feed wire. I have replaced feed tube and wire, adjusted tension both ways andput new tips, currently using .035 for.030 wire. I think it...

Depending on how old you machine is, its possible that the wire feed rollers are worn causing the wire to slip in the grooves. Replacing the WFRs may solve the problem. Test this by watching the feed rollers as you pull the torch trigger, place a gloved hand over the nozzle as the wire comes out and watch to see if the rollers slip on the wire when the wire meets the resistance of the glove. If it does that likely the problem. Hope this solves the problem.

Wire feed is sticking when I try to weld. If I increase friction it only jams the wire. I have never cleaned of replaced the liner. Is this my problem? I don't use this welder that much.

Cleanliness is important when it comes to Mig welding. Any rust, dirt, dust, oil is liable to be deposited in the whip liner. If it's just a dirty liner you can try cleaning it with a solvent that doesn't leave an oil deposit (electric motor cleaner, brake cleaner, that sort of thing) compressed air and flexing of the whip.

Make sure your whip hasn't been crimped, if it has then no amount of cleaning will restore it to operation.. a new liner is the only reasonable answer.

It's possible that a bad tip can cause feed issues. Miller type tips are the worst, in my experience, sometimes you just get a tip that will weld to the wire when the current passes between them. I've worked in shops where I might go through three tips in five minutes and then hit one that would last all afternoon. If the wire sticks and you can hold the gun up and rotate your wrist and you feel a 'pop' and the wire jumps out of the tip then just change the tip out. Excessive roller pressure with a tip that's sticking to the wire can really make trouble for you. Nozzle dip is your friend sometimes with tip sticking issues.

Copper clad wire is not particularly friendly to liners, the copper is liable to flake off in the liner. I use bare wire, I bag the wire in a plastic bag on the feeder and I wrap a scratcher pad on the wire just before it goes into the feeder and I find that I have few feed issues. Wire that has even a trace of rust should be discarded as it will both fill your liner with rust and give poor quality welds.

Have a Hobart Beta-Mig 170 Wire will not feed

First make sure the nozzle tip is free of any debris and the wire will slide easily. Lift the case and go to the wire feed unit. Loosen the pressure nob then lift up to release the pressure wheel. Make sure the bottom wheel ( should have two grooves, one for .35 wire and the other for 025 wire.) Make sure the Wire Feed Tip is also free and it allows the wire to pass through. Pass the wire through the feeder across the drive wheel and into the hose. Allow the pressure wheel to drop, then lift the pressure know to the upright position. Turn clockwise to put tension on the wheel. Make sure the gas is OFF, turn power on, depress trigger switch. This should allow the wheel to turn and feed the wire.

Wire won't feed into hose adapter.

You will have to adjust the tension at the feed wheels, also make sure the spool is not too tight, I had the same trouble with the 180 model, just a bit of fine adjustment
