Question about Roomba Robotic Floor Bagless Vacuum

Can not charge thr battery

My Roomba 4210 charging station's lights blink and the Roomba shows a charge but once it is removed from the station and power button is pressed the Roomba does not work. Assumed this was a battery problem so I replaced the battery but this is still an issue. The only difference is the amount of time it takes for the charging light to show a full charge. Before it took forever now it is only a short period of time.

    Thank you! My roomba was completely charged and showing a green light but when I tried to turn it on-nothing. iRobot said it couldn't be repaired. I'm not afraid to disassemble it-hey it isn't working now so what harm can I do.

    Oh, btw, my roomba is a Discovery series that is nearly 7 years old. It has had regular maintenance and cleaning. The battery has been replaced about every 2-3 years. It's been a wonderful helper!

When you press the "clean" button after charging, does the Roomba give you any audible tones? Those tones are the key to understanding failures in the 400 series. See chart below to decode those tones
If you get no tones at all, then either (1) you're not getting power from the battery to the main circuit board or (2) the main circuit board is dead. You really have to open the unit up to figure out which it is. Circuit board replacement is a pretty involved procedure since it requires disassembly of almost the entire robot. If you are brave and want to try it, replacement PCAs are available from places like www.RoboticVacParts.com. They are my favorite shop because they sell parts tha iRobot refuses to sell to consumers and they're prices always beat what iRobot charges.

The robot's Side Brush is stalled
• Pick up your robot and turn it over*
• Check to see if something is wrapped around the Side Brush.
• Remove the Side Brush with a screw driver and check for string or hair wrapped under it.
• Replace the Side Brush, place Roomba in the center of the room and press Clean to resume cleaning. “Uh-oh” plus 3 beeps

The robot's vacuum is stalled
• Remove and empty the Dirt Bin.
• Use a flat-head screwdriver to remove the grill at the back of the Dirt Bin.
• Spin the Vacuum Impeller around, shaking out any debris that may be stuck.
• Replace the grill and the Dirt Bin. “Uh-oh” plus 4 beeps

Play sound
The robot's Drive Wheels are stalled
• Your robot may be stuck, or something may be caught in a wheel.
• If it's stuck, place it in the center of the room and press Clean. It should resume cleaning.
• If it is not stuck, lift the robot, turn it over* and look for something caught in the wheels. Test the wheels by pushing them in and out and making sure they rotate freely. Place robot in the center of the room, press Clean, and it should resume cleaning.
If this continues to happen every time you clean, you may need a software upgrade. Contact iRobot Customer Support.

The robot's Cliff Sensors are obstructed
• Pick up your robot and turn it over.*
• Check for any debris that might be caught underneath the front bumper, around the Cliff Sensors.

The robot's Wheel Drop Sensors are overloaded (robot is stuck in a bumpy area)
• Pick up your robot, place it in the center of the room, then power it off and then on again.
• Select the cleaning cycle you prefer and let it go to work.
“Uh-oh” plus 9 beeps

The robot's Wheel Drop Sensors have failed at startup
• This failure requires you to contact iRobot Customer Support. Click here to send us an email. “Uh-oh” plus 10 beeps

The robot's bumper is not registering obstacles
• If the robot travels for a long distance without bumping into anything (which would be unusual), it might think it’s stuck and can’t move; press Clean again and it should resume cleaning.

Roomba 4210 won't start


  • Lift Roomba off the floor and place it in the center of the room and restart the clean cycle.

    4210 Starts for a second and then stops


    This will be one of, or both of, the following.
    Bad battery will not take a charge and cause this condition.
    NOW... Why will it not take a charge. either the battery is bad, and CAN'T take the charge the machine is giving. OR the charging circuit is fired on the main board. Sometimes a bad charging circuit will also cook your battery causing both to be screwed.
    But it is a common problem with the board going bad. Some people purchase an external charger for the battery and then swap it into the roomba when charged. But this kinda defeats the automated controls. The fried charging circuit also will drain the battery when it isn't turned on. I have repaired a number of charging circuits on these units

    Remove the battery and hold the power button for 15 seconds. This will restart the charging cycle as if the battery were new. If after 72 hours, it stays orange your battery is either sub-standard voltage or not sold as advertised.

    The charging circuit on the main board is fried. This is a common issue. You need some good electronic repair skills, and equipment, to replace the problem components

    My Roomba will not charge, the light on the charger is on and when you plug in the roomba the light goes out and nothing happens. Can anyone help. It is a Discovery Model 4210


    Are you using the home base or are you plugging the charger directly into the Roomba? If you are using the base, give plugging directly into the unit a try.

    You might also try resetting the battery. With the battery out of the unit, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds or so. After this is done, plug the charger directly into the unit, and let it charge for 3 days (no kidding, 3 days). After that, if you still have issues, it might be time for a new battery, or time to send the little guy in for repair.

    don't buy a new battery yet. you can reset the battery by charging for 16 hours, if this does not work, you need to take the battery out, push and hold the power button on your roomba for at least 15 seconds then reinstall the battery. plug in the charger directly to roomba not the docking station and charge until the battery light on the roomba is green. do not interrupt the battery charging cycle. after, leave the roomba charging for an additional 3 days or 72 hours. after, run roomba in max mode and run it till the battery is completely depleted. this will improve the battery overtime by charging again for 72 hours and depleting the battery. do this 3 or 4 times. and the battery should get better

    Roomba 4210 replaced aps battery still does not work


    Try cleaning the silver contacts on the battery as well as the charging station with a small amount of rubbing alcohol such as an alcohol pad.
    Also check to make sure the dirt reserve is completely empty. Also check that the briushes are clear and can move freely.
    This 'not charging' is a very common problem with the Roomba and the manufacturers continue to sell rechargable batteries that are no good even though they are aware of the problem.
