Question about Canon PIXMA MP160 All-In-One InkJet Printer

3 Answers

While printing a color job, the "alarm" button came on, an "E" flashed, and the number "2" alternated flashing with the "E." I had just replaced the ink cartridges, and the paper was in place. I turned it off and back on, several times, and cleared out any jammed paper. Every time I turn it back on, the same thing happens. The printing just prior to this event was PERFECT. What to do?

I hope this isn't a scam. I am about ready to call AMEX and void the charge. I don't need to be referred to websites or phone numbers that are already available for free on the internet. I signed up for your service so that someone could write back an e-mail that explained what to do to get the printer/photocopier working again. The "alarm" light flashes, an "E" and "2" also alternate, flashing. Canon MP160

Canon MP 160 color printer/photocopier is showing error number 5100. It appears as though it is about to print, then stops, and the unit shows a red alarm light and flashes "E" and "2" alternately. I have just replaced the ink cartridges and the paper is not jammed.

Hello jenniroth,

Solution 1. Load Paper Correctly

1. Remove paper from the ASF.

2. Open the paper output tray.

3. Set the paper thickness lever according to the media being used.

Note: For paper thickness lever settings, use the following setings for the media type being used: Right side: Envelopes / T-Shirt transfers. Left side: All other media types.

4. Divide the stack of paper into two or three piles.

5. Fan out the sheets of paper so that they do not stick together.

6. Load paper in the auto sheet feeder with the paper's print side facing up.

7. Align paper to the right edge of the auto sheet feeder.

8. Pinch and slide the paper guide to the paper's left side.

9. Press <Black> or <Color> button to clear the error.

4. Confirm that the ink cartridges are installed properly.

<1> The ink cartridge is not installed properly.

<2> The ink cartridge is installed properly.

5. Fold the scanning unit support and close the scanning unit (printer cover).

6. Wait until the preparatory operation is complete; it takes about one to two minutes.

Solution 6: printer require repair or servicing.

If after going through these steps you still face the same error, then you may need to take your printer for servicing.
Cheers!

Even i had this same problem but before i tell u what i did to make it work for me..... check out the canon wesite and their solution for this problem...... clik on the link below and clik on each of the 3 solutions specified as remedy.... as u clik each u ll have a diagrammaic representation of what u need to do....
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=116&modelid=13368#SupportDetailAct

as far as me I did manage to finally get the printer to work. Actually, for a trialrun I popped the top off of the empty black cartridge and squirtedabout 20 ml of rubbing alcohol down the side and let it sit for abouthalf an hour (I was going to use gin but my wife thought it would be awaste). I installed the cart and managed to get it to run a fewcleaning cycles (still getting a low ink indication) and actuallyprinted -- very well, too -- an entire 8X10 color photo and a few pagesof text before it started to fade to grey. I then sprung for new blackand color carts, popped them in and am up and running. All the otherfunctions are now working also.
good luck with ur printer.... thank you
