One day i took it out of my pocket and it worked fine then later that day i took it out of my pocket and it said Turn the power off and on again and the lens opened then i turned it off and the lens stayed...

Look at my post for a very similar problem. I tried all the steps, pushed and pulled on the telescopic lens thing. Got to the step of hitting it against my palm while turned off, and when I powered it up it worked again.

My husband dropped our camera, while it was on, face down, forcing the lens back in to it's closed position. It still turns on, but the lens won't extend. Any help?

you may well have striped the lens drive gears off,,,if you can get hold of the lens try pulling on it a little not hard though, it may pop out again,,,but dont hold your breth its going to work again,

My camera turns on then beeps 3 times then shuts off is it broken or is there a reset button?

The three beeps mean that the lens motor is unable to extend the lens assembly.
This could be due to a low battery situation, but the most likely cause is the lens drive train stuck or jammed. You'll find generic instructions on solving some cases of jamming here.

Unfortunately, more serious cases (due to falls, shocks, and most of all, the camera being turned on while some resistance prevents the lens from extending: e.g., if the camera accidentally turns on while in a pocket) require the repair shop.

Olympus Stylus 710 Error: D: 5f08 5f0a 5e02 5f08 5e02

this is the most common problem with the olympus cameras the lens has been knocked and by you pulling on the lens it sounds like you have done some damage to the motor that bring the lens in and out thats why its making that noise what you needed to do was move the lens either to the left or the right you will no when its fixed because the lens just pops out and the camera will be fine this works every time i just hope you havnt done to much damage alredy goodluck

Lens stuck in out position

Try this...the camera will not work as it try this one.
As you turn on the camera, hold the lens back by putting pressure on it...this may reset the camera lens back to the right position.

Your problem seems to be that the camera lens is out of sync with the rest of the camera system.
Try the above a few times... I had a camera which did the same thing, and by holding back (you can also try to pull on the lens) on the lens as it was turned on, it reset itself....May be worth a try. Be careful, because you can damage the lens with this process.
If the small gears in the lens are broken, then it will not work, and may cause more damage.
The lens is a very delicate mechanism and can be damaged by having it turn on in a crowded area such as a pocket, purse, and so on.
I always say... Treat the camera like eggs and unless there is a failure of electronics or mechanical problem, it will last a long time. Use a soft padded case, and treat the camera like a jewel, and it will give good service.
Too many people treat the digital cameras like they are made very strong by putting them in pockets, purses, crowded areas of other kinds. That will almost insure damage at some time. The LCDs in most digital cameras are easily damaged by slight pressure. The lens as well can be damaged beyond repair by dropping (hold the camera always with the wrist strap), bumping it against a hard object and so on.

Problem*cybershot DSC-S40

You have a jammed lens error the lens has to be repaired or replaced. You dont have to drop the camera for this to occur it can happen when ever the camera is in your pocket or purse. it accidently gets turned on and when the lens is coming out it is obstructed and strips the little plactic gears in the lens.
