Display panel does not light; sound is ok

I recently acquired a used RX-730 receiver. Seems to work well except that the display panel does not light. Can this be easily repaired/replaced?

It may not need repair. if you have it hooked up to a TV, by video, s-video, or component. Press the menu button on the remote and you can see the main menu of the unit on the TV. Navigate the menu up/down/left/right/enter until you get to "display". You should be able to turn the display of the receiver on/off. If you don't have the manual. http://www.yamaha.com/yamahavgn/Documents/YEC/Stereo_Receivers/Manual/RX-797_e_U_p.pdf That's the PDF from Yamaha. I haven't used this particular unit, but that's the way it's done on all the other series. ie. RX-V or RX-Z. Hope this helps

Out of curiosity, could you please elaborate on your issue. My RX-730 display is completely dead. It should actually have two lights, one general backlight and then the LCD display to indicate station frequency, etc. Does either one of these work for you? If so, which one? Can you check the voltage at the output terminals for your backlight? It is pretty simple, just trace the wires from the display back to the connector header on the board and put your VOM leads across the two terminals with the unit powered up. What voltage reading are you getting. I just checked mine and read about 0.12 volts which seems kind of low for a lamp circuit. I'll let you know what the service manual says when I get my hands on one.

Yamaha RX-730 Display Does not Light Up

The display is backlit with an incandescent bulb an easy fix. Two wires from power supply to a white plastic hollow reflector assy, similar to the back of an auto headlight assy. unplug at pwer supply and remove bulb from reflector insert new bulb and your done. Be careful not to damage pc board above reflector it's the controller for the LCD dislplay.

TXSR875 reciever display

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Two possibilities:
  • the Pure Audio feature has been engaged. This turns off the receiver's front panel display;
  • heat related issue. A common fault that develops is component failure, specifically, R9304, a 10 ohms dropping resistor connected inline with the +44V display supply.
Should you be considering a DIY (do-it-yourself) repair, please postback for procedures. Otherwise you may have to seek the services of an authorized service center (specially if under warranty) or a qualified professional

Hope that this be of initial help/idea. Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Front display panel

Check for bad connections on the display pins themselves. Specifically, the ones on the ends are the power/ground pins.
Let us know if that resolves the problem. If not, we'll look further into the circuitry.

No display info on receiver

Try plugging a video monitor AKA your TV into that monitor output connector on the rear of the yamaha.
Select video in on the TV and see if anything shows up from the yamaha

Sounds though like the receiver has serious issues. If you can get your moeny back , do so

Display is permanently "off" on the Yamaha RX-V620

Sounds like the LED that lights up the display has burnt out. An easy fix, if you're not afraid to take the front panel apart and resolder a new one.

Losing radio stations when switching on and have to press speaker button A

it does not have a battery but a large capacity capacitor that works like a battery. that could be the trouble but rarely happens on new units. the battery is located in the display board near the FL display. odl type uses like a button battery but newer model is just like an ordinary capacitor

RX-V1500- front panel lights not working

The display on an amp has two components.
A small Lamp (light bulb)
A LCD display with a color filter.
Normally when the display goes out the problem is with the lamp
The lamp on my RXV 870 died after about 9 years of use.
I called Yamaha and was able to by a replacement.
The lamp is an odd voltage 14.5 if I recall.

Looking at the receipt i should have bought 3 for the cost of shipping. It cost about 10.00 cnd,
