If you get message: " boot disk failure" then follow this tip

1)If any cd or dvd is there in the cd or dvd drive remove them first then try booting
if problem persists then
2)check the boot device priority in the BIOS menu, change the boot device priority if required(change to 1 st boot device floppy, 2nd harddisk drive,3 rd to cdrom drive something like this)
to go to bios setup press del or f2(it depends if del key doesnt brings you the bios utility then press f2) at time when you switch on the pc ie at the time of booting the pc ,
if problem persists then
3)check whether the harddisk is detected or not in the bios setup
if it is not detected then just open the CPU & check the bus & power supply cable connected to the harddisk remove them & reinsert them ...
if required then replace with the new ones ....
if the problem persists then
4)the operating system might have got corrupted just reinstall ....
if problem persists then
5)the harddisk partitions might have got corrupted or crashed ,just try partitioning them again and by installing the operating system.

I had two partition in my external harddisk...but now it shows only one partition when I plug into my computer. Moreover, the one which is shown also opens up quite slowly...please advise.

Connect the WD device
Click Start
Right-mouse click My Computer
Click Manage
Click Storage
Click Disk Management (local)
Do you see a "map" of the two partitions on the device?

It's possible that the disk-drive is "dying".
So, make a backup of the files on it, before it's "too late".

Then, if the WD device is still under WARRANTY, exercise the warranty to get a free replacement.

I got a problem with my toshiba harddisk, not able to operate it

If you are using windows, and this is not your only drive, right click on my computer - select "manage" - when the computer management window opens, click on disk management. Find your toshiba drive. From this console you can initilialize, partition and format the drive. Another solution is to download and burn the opensource live CD called Parted Magic at this address: You can boot and run this from the CD. Start the partition manager, locate the Toshiba drive, and select  Set-up a new filesystem (DOS) - you will be able to format the entire disk in nearly any filesystem available (you will most likely want NTSF of FAT32) - apply changes and viola!

Hope these answers help. If you have nay questions, dont hesitate to email me.

Laptop hard drive

Restart your system in safe mode...(If you dont know how to, it is :- When you power on your system, keep tapping F8 key, then a screen will appear which tells you to choose from it, so select Safe mode Startup from here)..., then after you have bootup in safe mode, open my computer, and right click on your harddisk, then go to properties, then tools, then Under Error Checking, click on Check Now tab, Then select the two options there, which are Automatically Fix File System Errors and Attempt recovery of bad Sectors, then click on Start, it will then prompt you that it wants to reschedule it to next System restart, so accept it and restart your system, when your system restarts allow it to scan your harddisk fully. Incase you have two or more partitions, try and do the same thing for ALL of them.
This method will save your harddisk, depending on how bad it has become.
Hope It Helps.

Missing Operating System error

your bought compag computer is a new one , because that error is appears only if the hard drive or the harddisk is defective or damage. Your installation of windows xp is finished totally because sometimes the error is appears because the system installation is not finished and the os system cannot read. try to re install again the windows and delete the old partitions and create again if the problem is the same even there is no error in the installation until it's finished i say that the problem is in the harddisk. Maybe the harddisk develop a bad sector in the master boot record of the hardrive
