Connection problems using ethernet cable

DG834GT (sky) can connect laptop wirelessly, but the desktop which is connected by cable won't connect to the net. any help please?

- ps, i have changed the ethernet cable for a new one and the problem remains

- sorry, I should have made it clear that it has worked fine before this for months.

It just stopped working the other day.

your modem or router has othere lan port or not if there then put it and in laptop you using dhcp or by manually given ip address what is that you have to give the same in the desktop and pls off the firewall of the desktop computer
