Question about Canon Elura 100 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

Canon Elura 100 Power Dead

I have a new Canon Elura 100 which I took with me on a trip. It worked splendidly. After coming back, I put it in its case and stored it.
I forgot to remove the cassette and the battery pack from the camcorder while keeping it.

I took out the camcorder after two months - but it refused to power up.
I've tried changing battery packs - with the same result. When I connected the power adapter to it, the charge light does not come on and there is no way I can eject the tape.

I contacted the canon tech support by email and they asked me to remove the BIOS battery (CR1616) for 20 minutes in order to reset the camcorder to factory defaults and then try powering it on again.
I did that - but with the same result - the power would not come on.

What could be wrong? Any suggestions?

I have exactly the same problem with my almost new Elura 100. I must have used it just 4 or 5 times. Just before a trip, I charged the battery, and
everything seemed ok. The very next day, it would not power up; neither did it power up with a different brand new battery. The local canon service rep looked at it and speculated a problem with the DC power module and recommended a $150 fix. But after working on it, the service tech soon concluded that it would not be fixed even with replacing the power module. He has recommended sending it to the factory for servicing. I too have a valuable cassette that cannot be retrieved from this dead unit.

I have the same problem with my Elura 100. I tried to use it after a couple months of it sitting on the shelf and it was dead. I tried powering it on with the AC cord connected and got the same thing. I charged the battery fully and replaced the CR1616 battery and still cannot get the camera to power on. I have only used this camera 3 or 4 times and it's just over a year old, so I'm not too keen on spending too much money to fix it. I thought Canon made decent and reliable products, but I guess I was wrong in this case. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, I would be happy to experiment on this unit.

Yeah, I have the same problem. However, I noticed the power draining over a weeks period. I cannot get it to recharge.

I too have the same model. But my problem is slightly different. The camcorder was fall down on floor by mistake and now the charge light does not come up at all. Neither the battery get charged up.
I suspect the D.Effect button is not working and there is some problem with the memory card - as it shows some error everytime I start the recorder. Tried whatever I could with the remaining battery - not sure what should I do next.

I have the same problem. I just finished recording my first cassettes worth of video about 5 months ago and recharged my battery before storing the camera away. I decided to use the camera again yesterday but it wouldn't power up. I tried charging it but the charge light won't go on. I thought it might be a problem with the charger so I borrowed a friend's charger but it still wouldn't work. I even tried his fully charged battery and it still doesn't even power up. My local service center said they would charge $145 to fix it but it would take a minimum of 3 months. I decided to buy a used one for about the same amount. At least now I have extra accessories.

Just an update.
I sent it back to the factory - and they fixed the power unit.
However, they told me that now my Memory card and memory card operations will not work.
They did not charge me for it - they took it under warranty.
Everything else seems to be working.

I have a Canon elura 100 camcorder miniDV it has was everyone tells me is a firewire cable to connect to my pc. I have several pc and laptops but not one has a connection to connect this cable to them. ...

Most Windows PCs have USB ports, but no Firewire port. As they do not come with this interface, you need to fit an add-on Firewire interface card into one of the PCI bus expansion slots. You can buy these cards cheaply from eBay or Amazon. They will come with a driver for the card.

Of course, this only works with desktop computers, laptops or notebooks cannot be expanded in this way.

Canon Elura 100 will not turn on or take a charge. New battery does not help

This is usually caused by a failed component in the power circuit within the camera and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired qualified service technician.

Canon Elura 60 won't power up

The same thing happened to mine soon after I got it. Turned out the plug I was using to plug it into the wall to charge had gone bad. The replacement was over $100 so I went with a (cheaper) wall battery charger that you conect the battery to.

Whenever I turn it on theres just a blue screen and I can't get it to record

It took me a while to figure this one out but I finally did and mine is back to working perfectly. The problem: The Play option worked fine but the camera did not. When turned to camera mode the blue canon screen would come up and then freeze. The only way to turn it off was to remove the battery.

The fix: I was brave enough to take the entire outer shell off the camera. On the main board, underneath the screen/battery side, all the different parts are connected together. There is a single connector from the lens that had come out of its port. The ribbon connector must have somehow been shaken out of the port at some point. With needle nose pliers I carefully fit the ribbon connector back into the port. I carefully reattached the outer shell and everything was back working!

I will warn you that this task takes some time due to many many screws. It's a lot better than sending it off for hundreds of dollars though.

Camera won't record

Hi!

First of all, English is not my natural language, so please forgive me. My canon elura 100, bought in the US 1 year ago, had the same problem. After a big fall (from a second floor), the camera landed in wet sand and after that the camera won't record again (it plays the recorded files just ok). Just today i had the time to check the camera, so i disassemble the camera and found a poorly connected cable, that goes from from the lens body to the motherboard of the camera. After reconnecting this cable the camera start recording again.

regards

Downloading my camcorder

See to it that you have an OS which is XP version or Vista Version. then Plug your camcorder, if it detects low power transfer the connection at the back of your PC, then double click you my computer icon see if another drive come out, if it has then thats it, double click the new drive then locate all your files then copy and paste it unto your PC.  if still didn't work out I'm sure it has a CD suite then install it. Thats it..

Tape problem, Elura 100

I called the factory and they said to send it in for evaluation.  While packing it up, I dropped it and lo and behold it started working.   Even though it started working, I decided to send it in to the factory and they found something "loose" inside and repaired it at no charge.
