Canon Elura 100 Power Dead

I have a new Canon Elura 100 which I took with me on a trip. It worked splendidly. After coming back, I put it in its case and stored it.
I forgot to remove the cassette and the battery pack from the camcorder while keeping it.

I took out the camcorder after two months - but it refused to power up.
I've tried changing battery packs - with the same result. When I connected the power adapter to it, the charge light does not come on and there is no way I can eject the tape.

I contacted the canon tech support by email and they asked me to remove the BIOS battery (CR1616) for 20 minutes in order to reset the camcorder to factory defaults and then try powering it on again.
I did that - but with the same result - the power would not come on.

What could be wrong? Any suggestions?

-   I have the same problem. I just finished recording my first cassettes worth of video about 5 months ago and recharged my battery before storing the camera away. I decided to use the camera again yesterday but it wouldn't power up. I tried charging it but the charge light won't go on. I thought it might be a problem with the charger so I borrowed a friend's charger but it still wouldn't work. I even tried his fully charged battery and it still doesn't even power up. My local service center said they would charge $145 to fix it but it would take a minimum of 3 months. I decided to buy a used one for about the same amount. At least now I have extra accessories.-   makapiapia

-   I too have the same model. But my problem is slightly different. The camcorder was fall down on floor by mistake and now the charge light does not come up at all. Neither the battery get charged up.
I suspect the D.Effect button is not working and there is some problem with the memory card - as it shows some error everytime I start the recorder. Tried whatever I could with the remaining battery - not sure what should I do next.

-   Yeah, I have the same problem. However, I noticed the power draining over a weeks period. I cannot get it to recharge.-   bcnole

-   I have the same problem with my Elura 100. I tried to use it after a couple months of it sitting on the shelf and it was dead. I tried powering it on with the AC cord connected and got the same thing. I charged the battery fully and replaced the CR1616 battery and still cannot get the camera to power on. I have only used this camera 3 or 4 times and it's just over a year old, so I'm not too keen on spending too much money to fix it. I thought Canon made decent and reliable products, but I guess I was wrong in this case. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, I would be happy to experiment on this unit.-   quilasip

Just an update.
I sent it back to the factory - and they fixed the power unit.
However, they told me that now my Memory card and memory card operations will not work.
They did not charge me for it - they took it under warranty.
Everything else seems to be working.

I have exactly the same problem with my almost new Elura 100. I must have used it just 4 or 5 times. Just before a trip, I charged the battery, and
everything seemed ok. The very next day, it would not power up; neither did it power up with a different brand new battery. The local canon service rep looked at it and speculated a problem with the DC power module and recommended a $150 fix. But after working on it, the service tech soon concluded that it would not be fixed even with replacing the power module. He has recommended sending it to the factory for servicing. I too have a valuable cassette that cannot be retrieved from this dead unit.
