SOURCE: hp psc 1510 - only want black ink

Hi Manavoc,

I will explain you the cause for it.

It prints in yellow first and then override with black for better quality. This is the reason your color ink gets empty.

SOURCE: smudges and 'ghost image" down the page from true image, little used printer, not even a whole cartridge used

Laser Printers that printouts can be smudged usually means the Transfuser (the part that settles the toner onto paper) is not fully functioning or damaged. Simply replace it and it should be back to normal. However, these Transfusers are quite expensive. So you may be better off to get a quote for a new one if out of warranty.

I ran all the cleaning options for the printer and installed two new cartridges for the black and the color. The printer is not printing anything in black ink and when I run the patterns test the black ink...

This printer, and printers from canon that cost less then 100EUR, arent predicted for any repairing, and there isnt any spare parts. Its " ONE USE " printer.
If you want quality, cost efective ( if you print enourmeous quantity ), buy canon colour copier.

but as most small users you are damned to buy low price, no good printers.
sorry, life is not good :-)
After waranty period, buy new printer.

Hope that helped!

Samsung CLP-315 colour laser printer - is it true that you cannot print only with the black toner cartridge, if one or more of the colour cartridges is empty? I only need to print black!

Yes, it is true that most of Color printers will not allow you to print document if one or more of the recommended Cartridge of the printer is empty or removed from the printer. for printing only black, the better option will be to change your printer settings while printing a document. ex: when on a document ,and your press Ctrl+P for document printing, there is a option where you can select print color as black and the printer will print your document in Black only.

Canon i9100: colors printing incorrectly

I've had the Canon i9100 since 2003 and have excellent photo printing results. In 2009 it started playing up and I'd gt some banding. More recently, black didn't want to print. It was as though the black ink in the print head got dry some days.

April 2010 - The colours started printing strange and I bought a brand new print head and installed it. Only takes a minute. Still had an issue with photo printing. Black and white was excellent but colours weren't true.

Found advice online to try cleaning the print head to print head carrier electrical contacts by rubbing them with a rubber eraser.

I did that and now I'm getting perfect colour photo prints again.

I had been thinking about buying a new A3+ printer but this is old printer is now working as good as new.

I replaced the black ink cartridge but I can't print

Hi, this is not a solution because I don't think there is one apart from buying new inks. You need to consider 2 things, firstly the official line: Epson (and all other inkjet manufacturers) do this to prevent the coloured print head nozzles from getting blocked. If they are not used for a long time the ink dries up and blocks the nozzles. Epson recommends printing at least once a month with all colours to prevent this. Whenever the printer is turned on it performs a head clean, this is why the coloured inks get used over time even though they are not used for printing. It is also why the "print in Black only" option (available on some printers) only works when the coloured inks are OK.
The 2nd unofficial line is that it is a win-win situation for manufacturers. Firstly they get to cut down on costly warranty call outs for blocked heads (replacement printers, technician manhours, etc) and secondly they get to sell lots more inks (Ka-ching!). If you really want to print black text only (and save cash on price per-print) then a mono-laser printer is the best way as they can now be bought at inkjet prices.

Black colour ?

Thats because it's using the other colours to mix what it thinks to be shades of grey. Due to the black ink being pigment based and the colours inks dye base, when printing onto glossy paper the machine will use the colour dye based inks to make up black.
If you were to print on plain paper, set to greyscale, then the machine will just use the black as the pigment ink sits onto of the plain paper and will not run should the paper get wet.  With glossy paper the ink has to be absorbed into the paper ad the Black pigment ink will not do this so the machine will use the coloured inks.

Sucks but true.

Printer= Epson stylus Photo R200=will not print in black

The printer is designed so that you have to have ink in all the ink cartridges. They sell more ink this way. I have the same printer and investigated this a few years ago. there is no work around. Peter
