Can't Play Online Call of Duty 4 With my WBR 2310 router

So i was try to dd wrt my linksys WRT54G v5 router and what do you know, it bricks. So i grab my old D'link router and set that up, i go to play CoD4 online and it Loads up everything but when i go to find a game it say "downloading game settings". I leave my ps3 on for about an hour come back and still "downloading game settings". I dont know what to do, i know my internet is fine it just seems to be CoD 4 online doesn't work. i have a WBR 2310 A1 router and my connection is 100%! I have nothing but trouble with this router, unfortunately I cant really help you with the dlink because it's been finicky for me regardless of what firmware or settings I try. If you want to attempt resurrecting that linksys router, try reading about the pin shorting solution here: http://lookforitoverhere.com/5/unbrick-wrt54g-v5/ Additional information about version 5 and 6 of this router from DDWRT site is here, http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Version_5_And_6_Router_Information You may want to read it over before trying the above solution to debrick your router, or read it before you attempt to install DDWRT again. Sorry I couldn't help with the dlink, I'm about to buy a WRT54GL myself.

That is a clitch to the game. Turn of PS3, Turn back on. This time wait 20 seconds before clicking multiplayer, Then 20 more seconds before clicking find game. I use the same router and PS3.

Client Mode or 2nd Wireless Router with new Subnet Mask?

The original firmware does not have this option, but you can get a custom firmware at http://www.dd-wrt.com/

DD-WRT is not supported by linksys, so a little caution there as this could ruin your router if it is not installed properly. Fortuately they have plenty of documentation on installation and troubleshooting if needed.

Also found this on how to setup Client Mode through DD-WRT - http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Client_Mode_Wireless

Linksys wireless firmware is know for it slow connection issue. I have one and my lan speed was double then my wireless speed. I put the third pary firmware from www.dd-wrt.com website and now my wireless and lan speeds are the same.

My linksys wireless-g router hangs up all the time and I m ust power on and off to get it to reconnect

Hello,

I even have experienced such kind of problem. To fix this problem all you have to do is to download a new firmware, which is an opensource firmware from DD-WRT it has much more features than the ordinary firmware and its much more stable.

Then after upgrading just make sure that you put the option for Keep Alive enabled and try and restart the router like once per day so that it does not clog up.

That will solve your problem. The DD-WRT website is www.dd-wrt.com

Have a good day.

Bridge or Repeter mode.

It is possible but you will need to flash the router with custom firmware.

Here is how:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Installation

This is only possible if you have two wrt54-g routers that are of one of these types:

WRT54-G ver 1
WRT54-G ver 2
WRT54-GL

(there is a sticker on the bottom that can tell you what version it is)

This is the article that I followed and it workes great.

Repeater router responds with 'Address not found...'

You need to start from scratch.

Whenever you need answers they can be found here -
http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=1&sid=785382853553ee7844cfab78da0607db

But best to start with the Wili - http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Installation

And here is your get out of jail card -
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php?title=Recover_from_a_Bad_Flash

If you have to resort to the hard method of recovery, be careful.
I have only ever permanently killed one router - doing this - http://voidmain.is-a-geek.net/redhat/wrt54g_revival.html

You will first need to establish which model router you have. Then you will (assuming you want to use DD-WRT firmware) need to flash a micro or mini firmware. Then you flash again, using the standard.
There are many users worldwide using your WRT54G and GL routers with other than standard firmware, me included. I manage a network of 9 routers running DD-WRT V23SP2 standard.

Don't give up, and when it says to leave it 30 seconds (or 2 minutes) DO! Be patient...

Linksys WRT54G v1.1 drops WAN IP!

OK - let's get on with that..and let's see what I can do...

Are you using standard Linksys firmware? To my knowledge, only third party frimware like DD-WRT and Tomato are capable of that. If so, have a look
  1. here for DD-WRT (and look at the "WLAN Repeater" link)
  2. or here for Tomato, (look for "Setting Up WDS Repeating") and see if you get any further.

Why do you need MAC cloning? (I'm just interested - maybe I can learn something too!)

Do you have access to the router "across the street"?

Good luck!
