Dell memory issues

Hi I just purcased 2 x 1GB PC2 6400 DDR memory modules from Dell Direct that won't work in the Dell Inspiron 6000. Dell support says it should, are there known issues with this? If so what could be recommended to fix this as I have 512Mb PC4200 ram in the machine and wanted to upgrade the ram to 2GB. I have flashed the BIOS and still have no luck.

If the ram chips are not compatible you need to get ones that are.
your unit supports this type

Memory type 1.8-V SODIMM DDR-2
Minimum memory 256 MB
Maximum memory 2 GB

you can still put 2 gigs in it but it has to be the above type
here is a link to a manual
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins6000/en/om/D5181bk5.pdf

and are you surprised that they say it will work. Thats why you have techs here, because the manufacturers hire people that don;t know from adam. same thing with apple. the techs you call are usless. Return your ram chips to dell and have them send you the ones that work.

Hi i got a ( dell Inspiron vista ) that i cant fix because of a virus - my question is can i use the memory board from that to put in my dell Dimension B110 dell system with XP home edition?

It all depends, if your dell inspiron vista (you didnt wrote the model) uses DDR2 memory you cant, because the B110 uses DDR memory modules (it's an older system). Probably your dell comes with DDR2.

Dell Inspiron 6000, Windows XP. Page Fault Error. Laptop died with BSOD indicating Page Fault error. Won't start in normal (BSOD) or any of the safe modes (hangs while loading drivers). Any ideas?

This appears the be a RAM memory read error. Try removing one of the memory modules, and run the system see if the error still occurs. Then try the other module. If issue is only associated with 1 module, replace that one.

Memory can be purchased here: www.crucial.com

Inspiron 6000 starts to boot but then shuts down after only 10 seconds. New Battery, power supply measures ok. Caps lite is on.

Try reseating the RAM memory modules, see if any change.
If no change, remove, battery, Drives, Wireless card and RAM, see if the system will run longer or give an error code. If something changes, add 1 RAM module and try again. If the system runs, then add items back one at a time until you determine the faulty item.
If the system issue doesn't change, odds are a motherboard problem. Motherboard are about $100 on Ebay

Have a dell inspiron 6000 laptop doesn't switch on please help se

For both laptops try reseating the battery and the memory.
If there are two memory modules, try booting with only one.
If there is a light on the AC adapter, make sure it is on when plugged into the wall.
Good Luck.
