Soyo KT600 Dragon Plus v1 Not Recognising New HDD

Hi, I hope someone can help.

I have upgraded my HDD to a new Western Digital Caviar Green 500GB SATA drive (WD5000AACS) as my old drive was toast. I have a Soyo KT600 Dragon Plus v1, but it is not recognizing the new drive. I have tried to do an install of Vista on the machine, and Vista does not recognize the drive either.

Is this drive compatible, or is there something that I need to do in the BIOS settings (I have made the changes as per the manual)? Because there is no OS on the machine, I cannot install the drivers that came with the MB.

Any help appreciated.

Tried that, doesn't work. I have downloaded the VIA RAID and SATA drivers, chucked them on a floppy, put in an old XP disk and hit F6 to load the drivers from the floppy...but XP comes back and says it did not detect a HDD on my machine. I currently have version 2BA1 bios, and I'm trying to download 2BA3 to see if this will make a difference but the Soyo sites seem to be down for the last 2 days (every bios site I go to has a link to download from Soyo...). This is driving me freakin nuts.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

Right boys and girls, I think I may have solved it...

The WD drive ships by default without any jumpers set on the rear of the drive. I have discovered that my Soyo KT600 Dragon Plus v1 is a SATA compatible board - NOT SATA II...and the drive is SATA II. I put a jumper across points 5 and 6 to make it act like a SATA drive, and guess what - the S.O.B is now recognized by my PC. Something as simple as this has taken me close to a week (almost all day, every day) and countless websites to discover. I'd like to give a big shout out to the SOYO websites (,, - I have not been able to access any of these sites for the last 3 freaking days (some B.S. SQL error keeps coming up from their servers). Frustrating as hell, but hopefully the info here will help others to keep their hair and sanity...

Same - I have tried in vain to find the latest BIOS for my SOYO KT600 v1.0 also. Every download site I go to points me to SOYO...which, as we all know, is completely hopeless since their sites are down.

If anyone does have the latest BIOS for this board, please do share.

I am currently going through your very same problem. Can't find the most current BIOS for my KT600 1.0 to fix my checksum error. I think I'll have to trash my mobo :(

Sata dvd/cd not showing as logical drive, this problem is on a sy-kt600 dragon plus motherboard.

make sure that your bios is up to date by visiting your manufacturer's website and comparing the most recent release to the numbers flashed on your screen on post. If not, flash your bios using the instructions on the manufacturer website. Did this solve the problem?

Yuck! Soyo filed for bankruptcy in May and their website is gone!
You need to enable the SATA in the rom bios AND install the drivers for it; but, I hope you have the manual and the CD.

Wd800jd sata hard drive not recognized in bios on boot up

Hi, A couple of ideas: 1. There are 3 versions of this motherboard: Dragon Plus, V1.0 & V2.0, perhaps your BIOS needs an update to be able to recognize the new HD. This of course would require flashing; 2. There are two variations of a WD SATA hard drive: Serial ATA amd Serial ATA II; 3. Re Jumper settings: the eight-pin jumper block is only used to enable power management on the drive. There are no master/slave settings since there is only one drive per cable; 4. If you are fresh installing Windows on it, you need to press F6 when asked by the Windows Installer and follow on-screen instructions. Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turn up or should you need further information.
