Did you install a new hard drive in the Acer? They have had problems when trying to restore windows onto a new drive or trying to use system restore on the existing drive. The same error message comes up.

It seems that when the pqservice partition is not on the drive, the recovery DVD won't work if the drive contains any partition (Restore Failed - reason 0xa000000e) is all you will see.

However, try deleting everything on the drive (leaving only unpartitioned space) before putting in the recovery DVD. The eRecovery tool first says that it is repartitioning the drive and then starts the install successfully.
I hope this helps.

In order to delete everything from the hard drive boot the computer and start hitting F2 to enter the bios. You should be able to Format the hard drive from the bios. This will completely wipe everything from your hard drive so don't use this option unless you are sure there is nothing on the hard drive you want to keep. Also, you will need to have the restore disks or recovery DVD available in order to load windows back on to the disk. If you don't have the recovery DVD I suggest you contact Acer to aquire one before you start. Hopefully this will help.

Go to www.microsoft.com then click on support, then Knowledge Base. Once at knowledge base type in your error code and several articles will appear explaining what the error code means and the different circumstances it will pop up..just find the operating system which applies to you.

Ok no problem..check in your BIOS boot area and make sure it is booting from your hard drive and not your CD/DVD..also sounds like someone was attempting to reload windows then it failed that's the error you would get if you tried to upgrade but was not able to for whatever reason. If you have your Windows Disc, you can boot from the DVD, let it run for a few minutes, then it will eventually ask you if you want to load windows or "repair"..choose "repair" and that will fix your boot record which sounds like it may be corrupted.

The only thing to try now, is to get a Windows install DVD, put DVD in drive and boot from the DVD, then try to install with that, when you get to installing and it asks if you want to Format, do so, format Full NTFS. Then try to proceed to installing. If this too fails then you will need to replace your hard Drive, quite a simple matter.

Acer 5520 restore failed 0xa000000e

I got it to work by deleting all the partitions on my drive (I first loaded xp, loaded system commander 9, and used that to delete all the partitions.)

Then while booting from the recovery cd, holding down alt-f10, the recovery dialog said it was partitioning the drive. (I didn't see this before, even if I partitioned the drive like it came from the factory.)

Then the rest of the recovery worked.
