Question about Canon PowerShot SD600 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Playback function My Canon Powershot SD 600 has suddenly stopped going to the playback mode. The switch has three functions- stills, movie and playback. It suddenly stopped showing the playback when I move the switch to position. This means that I cannot do any of the functions that require me to use playuback, like for example erase. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Same problem. I noticed that in the playback mode that the printer/share button is locked on and green and can't be unlocked. None of the other functions (menu, Disp., etc.) work.

The camera keeps switching to movie mode when I want to take a picture. Really need help with this one. Camera is two years old.

My camera is just over 2 years old, and I have recently not been able to switch out of movie mode. If I fuss around with the camera enough it may eventually switch to camera mode, but it is very frustrating when you miss a shot.

After only 2 years of working well, the playback mode switch will only allow video and shoot. I cannot view pictures I have taken. The only way to download to the computer is by using a separate card reader.

Same problem here! Movie mode seems to take over the camera mode and the playback mode doesn't work unless I bang on the side of the camera several times.

I have exactly the same problem with my SD600. Often the camera will go into movie mode when the switch in the picture mode position. Usually messing around with it a few times, you can get it to switch back to picture mode, but it makes the camera absolutely frustrating to use. Looks like this is a common problem with this model.

Unless your an electronics expert, you run a very high degree (89-100%) of probability that the camera will never work again. If your cameras aren't under warranty, than call the canon north america offices, and explain the problem they will more than likely work with you considering this is a wildly popular problem with this specific model.

Canon a610 no display of new pictures only previous

I almost have the same problem.
My camera automatically switches between playback and camera mode quickly only for a while, then it remains still in the playback. When it remains in playback,if I toggle the playback/camera switch few times,it may work for some shots but again the problem begins. Did you find any solution?

The sound on movie playback (via camera) not working

It could be possible that your speakers on the camera have blown out from having it too loud. try taking it to your nearest camera shop to be repaired. Good Luck Please Rate!

Lizzie,

This may sound like a dumb question, but are you sure that you had the camera set to the video recording mode? Several of the Canon digital PowerShots will show the movie icon on the LCD screen even when the camera is in image record mode. Why, I don't know. Ensure that you set the camera into movie mode by pressing your Func/Set button to go into the Function Menu and then selecting the movie mode that you want to shoot in. Press the Func/Set button again to get out of the Function Menu and you will not only see a movie camera icon on the LCD screen, but also a set of numbers in the bottom left hand corner representing the recording resolution (e.g. 640 pixels) and the frames per second (e.g. 30).

And just in case you did have the camera set in movie mode, make sure that you don't do what many people have inadvertantly done and mistake the video clip for a .jpg image in the playback screen. Videos will of course have the movie camera icon in the upper corner of the image and are viewed by pressing the Set button twice to begin the playback.

If both of these steps were performed properly then your camera may have a hardware issue. As a last resort, try performing a reset from within the menu just to be on the safe side and see if it makes a difference. If not you may need service. Hope this helps.

Sincerely,
HeavyDLB

No sound with movies

Make sure that you don't block the microphone with your finger while shooting a movie. The microphone is a small opening just forward of the shutter button.

If the microphone is clear and you are still not getting sound, it may be that the microphone or connections to the processor have gone bad.

I have a canon SD 580. When I playback the video clip it's always in fast forward mode and I can't play it normal speed. Any help?

Make sure you are shooting your movies in "Standard" mode. If you have the mode set to something else, especially "Time Lapse", the playback may not match 'natural' motion.

In any case, you can control the speed of the playback. When you first enter the movie playback mode, there should be a movie control bar along the bottom of the LCD. Instead of the "Play" button, select the "Slow Motion Playback" button (single arrow with single bar next to the normal Play button), and control the speed with the left or right arrows on the multi-controller.

Downloading movies from PowerShot SD850 IS to Mac G5

Sounds like you are watching the thumbnails but the files are still on the camera... try downloading/transfering via iphoto.. the files should show up in your iphoto library and if you double click them, it will launch quicktime and allow you to play it...
let me know if that gets you there...

No Sound

The camcorder may be in what may be called "narration mode." This function mutes the playback audio so you can narrate with you own voice when playing tapes back. Check for a function like this in the playback sound menu.
