SOURCE: The speakers don't work anymore...

Pardon the pun, but it "sounds" like you need a new sound card. I recommend TigerDirect for quality parts, service, and shipping.

Please let me know if this helps. Good luck!

SOURCE: Green light on speakers and sub. No sound - only hissing noise

It may appear that the output from the computer is not connected to the input to the Altec Lansings. The correct color is Green for output to speakers line level. Blue is input from mixer or other possibilities Line level. Pink is Microphone (Mono). If this doesn't assist sometimes the front panel will override the rear panel outputs. Good luck.

Hi Thanks for your help, One year old Sony mini

sir i think ypur unit is ok and run correctly... try to check your speaker maybe your speaker got open or burnt... you can test it by swapping your speaker to another unit or you can test your speaker using multitester...just point your selector at resistance test a speaker has 8ohms reading....

the speaker has a two terminal.. a positive terminal and a negative terminal... your multitester has a two lead.. red lead which is a positive and a black lead which is negative..
measure-speaker-impedance-1.1-800x800.jpg Multimeter probe sockets (NL Graphics) Insert the probes of a digital multimeter in the correct sockets of the multimeter. There may be several different sockets for the probes depending on what parameters you're measuring. Look for the sockets marked "impedance" or displaying the ohm symbol. Different models and brands of multimeters will vary in their labeling, so check your multimeter's manual if you're not certain about which one to use.

  • 2 Select the range for the multimeter. Since you'll be measuring fairly low resistance levels with a speaker, choose a range that will encompass readings in the 2-16 ohm range. It's extremely rare to find speakers that will have an impedance outside of that range.
  • 3 Touch one probe to each of the speaker terminals and check the reading. This will be the impedance of the speaker. Record the measurement, and when you're done, turn off the multimeter to preserve the batteries for the next time you need the multimeter.

Center speaker does not have sound

First double check all connections. And if that does not fix pull the cables on one of the working speakers and plug into the center speaker to make sure it is not a bad speaker. If the speaker works connect them back the way they were and Click Start then open Control Panel look for Sounds and Audio Devices click on it. It should open to Volume now down on the bottom you will see Speaker settings click on Advanced. Speaker Advanced Audio Properties should open look for Speaker setup click on the little blue V, go down and click on Surround sound speakers now click Apply then OK and OK again. It should work correctly now.

The sound only comes out of 2 speakers - (shows only 2 speakers on display). When the display shows all 5 speakers, we dont get any sound at all. Can you help

Aside from connecting the black wires and the red wires in their correct places, if you have a blown speaker in the center or surround, it will cause the others not to work.
Here are something things to look for:
1 not every wire is suitable. Most wires are ok, but have natural resistance that prevents some of the signal from reaching the speaker. (impedance, measured in OHMS.)
    2. Most of the newer systems have rca or banana connectors to insure clean interfaces.
The reviews I read on this product do not inspire me to go out and buy one, so if you can still choose something else consider it sooner rather than later.
3 the amplifier for the surround sound speakers may already be damage
Try every speaker on the output that works. That way you can tell if the speakers are the problem or if it is the amplifier.
    Good luck.

Sherwood RX-5502 receiver - get no sound.. checked polarity - OK... replaced speaker wire - OK... checked speakers on another device - OK.... tried phono and tuner and cd player - no sound with any........

After doing all this troubleshooting on your receiver, Check if master volume on the surround levels are too low. Adjust master and surround level.

There may aIso incorrect selection of the input source. Select the correct input source.

If after doing this the problem still continue, it means the sound ic in the receiver is damage. the sound ic brings out the sounds from the receiver. You will have to open the receiver to locate the sound ic in the receiver and use the multimeter to read capacitors and change the damage ones.

    Thanks for using Fixya.
