Question about D-Link AirPlus DI-524 Wireless Router

Can't get my di-524 router to work

I have a d-link DI-524 (new) wireless router, I have connected it to a Siemens speed stream modem, but it only connects locally and not to the internet. I have talked to D-link tech's but was told it should just work!! I'm not sure what type of cables I should use and don't know how to configure??. I'm not very good with computers so answers for dummies would be good. I have pinged it, no connection ( local access only) modem works fine, shoulr i use a straight or crossover from the modem to router? Thanks

No a straight cable...you are going to need to clone your MAC address on your router so that your ISP can see it.. email me at techray1@live.com

Dlink router is not connecting to the internet

Check the lights on the router to make sure both out going and incoming are on.

Manual link below in case that helps

ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/di_broadband_gateways/di-524/di-524_manual.pdf

If not both on contact broadband supplier as IP for router may have been "altered" and will need resetting their end.

Not unknown for an outage to be proceeded by a "spike" which can blow unprotected items.

I just conected my DI-524 with a new cable modem

The first question is whether your change of service provider really has any connection with your new lack of range. If your new cable modem contains a wireless router, it's possible it is interfering with your old router. You only need one, so in that case you should remove your DLink and configure your wireless cable router to your satisfaction. Otherwise, you may have coincidentally picked up a new source of interference; you may want to change the channel on your DLink router to see if that improves your range. The third possibility is that your DLink radio is going sour with age -- it happens -- and may simply need replacement.

Dns problems

If you connect the computer directly to the modem, does it work ?
If not then call ISP and make sure that your main computer will be able to go online when it is connected to the modem only ( without the router).
If that is working then you can reset the routerand reconfigure the router manually.

If your Broadband modem is only with w/USB connection you have to change modem/router, you won't connect it with usb to di-524.

Connect to wireless D-Link and Westell6100

I am assuming that you have a functional LAN cable connecting the Westell and the DI 524, right? If you are unsure, replace it with a cable you know is good.

If the 524 is turned on downstream of the Westell modem, it should find what it wants. You may try rebooting the Westell and seeing if the 524 finds it, and you maybe should reboot the 524.

Sometimes, when the world gets jiggered up I have to work pretty hard to get my DI-524 resync'd to my DSL modem.
