My keeps blinking w/red light like there is a message waiting but there's no message

Most of the time your home phone service has a digital voice mail like your cell phone does. If the answering machine is set for an amount of rings that is too long the digital voice mail service will answer before your machine. The new cordless phone indicators do show messages on your digital voice mail as well as the answering machine. Depending on your home service, most of the time when you press talk and you hear a different non standard dial tone(mine pulses 3 times before going to solid dial tone) you have a digital message. You need to delete this message before the indicator light will stop flashing. Then set up you digital voice mail for a longer pickup time! This should get rid of this problem.

The red blinking light is an 'event' light, it does not necessarily mean a message is waiting for you, it will also start to flash if you have a missed call.
click 'up' on the round button to show the missed calls list and it will stop flashing, at least it does on mine!

The red message light on my Bell South #1129 answering machine is constantly blinking. Play button doesn't work. On Off button doesn't work. Can't access messages. Can't stop the blinking. I know it's something very simple. But WHAT?

I figured out that the blinking light is for message waiting, as in voicemail. That's odd, because we told our provider we didn't want their voice mail.
The part about not being able to answer incoming calls is associated with the light. When you have a voicemail message waiting to be answered, you provider indicates that by a stuttering dial tone for the first few seconds.
I knew all this from 13 years as a service tech for telecomm. Just didn't put 2 & 2 together because we are not supposed to have message waiting. A company doing what you asked them not to. Go figure.

As for this site, fixya.com, I am not happy. The service is advertised as FREE! But in order to get an answer I was told via email, from fixya, that I needed to upgrade to a premium account. That's BS and I'm not buying it.

Do you have a base and have you checked and deleleted the messages on the base? If you have a base that has an answering machine in it it won't stop blinking until you have erased the messages on the base as well. I would start with that first, but I'm unsure what type of phone you have.

Got rid of it and got a BT one
