Wifi adapter is gone!!!

I bought a new laptop (Broadcom 802.11 b/g) and it was working fine until just recently. I was restarting my system, and when the sreen came up the only network connection available was the hardwire NIC. I searched through the device manager to see if I accidentally disabled it and there was no adapter there. If you can help me I would love you forever.

Re: Wifi adapter is gone!!!

I don't find that it is a hardware issue. Mine has the problem when it goes to sleep and comes back the wireless drivers are not able to load because of something with Vista... Still haven't figured it out yet, I reloaded the drivers several times, and that doesn't work. It does work when I do a full system restore, but then stops shortly after (maybe because of vista updates or something) Right now it works when I reboot my computer several times and don't turn it off again.... :-/

Re: Wifi adapter is gone!!!

If you have an HP or Compaq, go to HP's website, and put in your model number, there is a free repair that they will do (motherboard, Heat dissipater, etc) I sent mine in 4 times, had 2 different motherboards put in it.

Re: Wifi adapter is gone!!!

I have a hp pavilion dv6000 and i have it out of warranty when it refused to work, i found that the fan in the hps/compaqs if blocked still cant flow the hot air screwing up pcbs and connections leading to components (their is my theory)
best bet is to get an external plug and play adapter and duck tape it to your laptop(or desktop)!!!lol

Re: Wifi adapter is gone!!!

According to tech support in my area you need to send it back to the maker of the laptop ( i hear that HP laptops have this problem all the time)

Re: Wifi adapter is gone!!!

I have found the main problem!!!!!
Broadcoms functions don't work well with windows Vista!!!!
Many of the forums i have looked on have said this exact same thing. you need to mess with your computer's settings in a deep level in order to fix it. I am not so good with the computer, but all of the forums have various solutions for these problems. However, if you're computer illiterate like me, you won't be able to make heads nor tails of it. I suggest you go to an expert who can explain these things to you.

Re: Wifi adapter is gone!!!

I have been looking on all of the forums and chat groups for information and i have found a solution. Sometimes companies ship people faulty cards that dont work after certain periods of time. these periods are relatively short and the companies make a small profit off of the repairs, most likely because some of the people accidently void their warrenty, the only solution i have found is to buy an external wireless card or get a new card installed into your laptop.

Re: Wifi adapter is gone!!!

I have the exact same problem. I did manage to catch it when the wireless was working. It appears that there is something that disables the wireless completely, i don't know how to fix it or how it started, but when i checked the device manager it said that the wireless was disabled. I tried to enable it but that failed. I am searching for a solution for this problem as we speak. I hope to get back to you with a true solution. My theory is that it is either a hardware problem, meaning broadcom shipped us some faulty equipment, or there is a virus or a program conflict with the system.

Re: Wifi adapter is gone!!!

Many laptops have an external switch that enables the wireless device. Check your manual to see if you have such a switch. My roommate turns hers off accidentally all the time.

Donot use an extension cable or a USB hub. Connect the wireless adapter directly to the computer. Try with different USB ports on the computer. Try updating the latest driver. Check it with a different computer so that we can isolate if it is the issue with the computer.

Broadcom getting uninstalled automatically

Hi There,
I don't know if this is the same problem you are having but one of the staff from my office was bumping the switch on the side of his laptop and turning off wireless support. When you look in the device manager you don't see anything because it is turned off. He would bump it again in a few days and it would magically come back. Not all laptops have a switch like this. Some have a function key combination you press to turn wireless on and off but you can't still trigger that by accident but not as easily as a button on the side of the case.

Hope this helps.

Broadcom 802.11g stop recognizing any wireless on my gateway laptop

is this on a laptop? check that the wifi is not turned off. some laptops have a switch on the side or perhaps a Fn key (blue icons on the F keys) that disables the wifi on the pc. try Fn+F2 or Fn +F5 (look a the F keys for a blue wifi icon)

post back results and the system you are using inc the OS so I may assist in greater detail if required

Laptop not connecting to wireless network

Try plugging it into a different usb port if you have one. They all read differently.
