Tighten the fours screws that support the hinge to the lid. Oftentimes they loosen and don't allow the leverage necessary to engage the lid switch... Hope this helps... Bill

Kenmore 700 series top loader washer. I put it on the normal cycle, the washer fills and agitates for a few minutes (maybe 5) then drains only to fill back up and finish the cycle. Is this normal?

no
some cycle the agitator during the fill cycle to get better distribution of the clothes as it is filling and then shut of the water and proceed to the wash cycle
have a technician check out the program board

Speed queen washing machine fills water but does not agitate but all other cycles spin and rinse working perfect. i took out the belt and started the cycle and the motor was moving fine.

the motor spins with out the belt , makes me tend to discount the capacitor
I would be looking for a tub brake that is not being opened to allow the tub to agitate
there are solenoid activated brake under the machine the applies a brake when you lift the lid during wash, when the program is finished
have a technician check it out

At the beginning of the wash cycle, the agitator begins as it fills with water. Normally, after the water fills to the predetermined size of the load, the agitator will then start, but now they start at...

Honestly it could be a few things, and some of them very technical in detail to the point honestly I would call a proffesional in on it. Its possible the timer may have a short in it and its running ahead of its self. Its also possible that the water level switch is starting to go and gives the machine the go ahead to start washing. It could also be the water valve sticking and therefore the machine is operating normally but the valve continues to fill .And the list goers on and on. Unless your real familiar with that specific model thats one I would leave to the pro's.

Agitator starts at begining of cycle before washer is full

Please be carful as running the agitator without enough water will overheat and kick out the motor, however it should be ok when it resets itself.
Yes, the machine should stop agitating when you lift the lid so this too is part of the problem.
After looking at the print I can only suggest that the cam contacts in the timer ( contacts 12 and 14) that start the motor are burned and stuck together.

Hello dagreen,
Welcome to fixya.
I'm Huuum and happy to assist you,

You said,
Last night you filled the washer with a comforter and pillow cases! It was working fine and then you lifted the lid. Now it wont start back. Any ideas. It is full of water and had already started agitating.

Check the breaker
Could the power be out due to an electrical storm while you were sleeping.
If not!

Try pulling the plug out for 5 minutes or turning the breaker off if you can't reach the plug.
Then try to start. this should have reset the system.

Some Questions to check
• Is the drain hose clogged, or the end of the drain hose
more than 96 in. (244 cm) above the floor? See the
Installation Instructions for proper installation of drain hose.
• Is the lid open? The lid must be closed during operation.
Washer will not agitate or spin with the lid open.
• Is there excessive sudsing? Always measure detergent.
Follow manufactures directions. If you have very soft water,
you might need to use less detergent.

let me know how you do and that it works.
Huuum
please remember to leave a rating when your finished.

Cycle is off

When you look at the timer schematic it has a time reference showing agitation doesn't start until fill is completed. Sounds like switches 5, 5a and 16, 16a are stuck. You need that timer replaced.

Agitator always moving

The inner tub on some machines does rotate very slowly while filling to assist with the even distibution of the load. If the agitator is turning back & forth while in fill mode, you could have a timer or transmission problem. You need a tech.
