Cannot connect to the internet due to virus or spyware

2 computers connected to a server. 1 cannot connect to internet - no problems with DSL or modem. 1st computer cleaned up remotely by VERY expensive guy, and found spyware and worm. Did not clean up 2nd computer because he could not connect (no internet connection). How can we clean it up ourselves?

Are you able to get an IP address?Go into Start > Run > type "cmd" (no quotes) > and then once that pops up type in "ipconfig" again, no quotes. If you get an IP address that's something not 0.0.0.0 that's a good sign. If you get a message that says media disconnected, make sure that your wireless card isn't turned off or disabled. To clean it up though, download something like Malwarebytes off of download.com from your computer that can get online, put it on a flash drive, and install it on your other computer. If you perform a full scan, it takes roughly a half hour and it does a pretty good job cleaning up the machine.

Download ComboFix from here: http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
and put it on your desktop.

Now, please make sure no other programs are running, close all other windows and pause your antivirus software until after the scanning and removal process has taken place.

Double click on the file you downloaded. Follow the onscreen prompts to start the scan. Once the scanning process has started please DO NOT click on the Combofix window or attempt to use your computer as this can cause the scanning process to stall. It may take a while to complete scanning and this is normal.

You will be disconnected from the Internet and your desktop icons/toolbars will disappear during scanning, do not worry, this is normal and it will be restored after scanning has completed.

Combofix will create a logfile and display it after your computer has rebooted. Usually located in c:\combofix.txt , please attach it to your next post. Also, please don't forget to resume your antivirus software.

Http://192.168.1.254/ has been put into my home page browser but nothing happens

IP ADDRESS 192.168.1.254 is the default gateway of an AT&T modem router (RESIDENTIAL GATEWAY) (2WIRE). for this ip address should be able to view the main screen of your 2wire modem and if not your computer is connected to a different network.

1) try connecting the computer to the 2wire RG using a ETHERNET cable (if your connected via wireless)
2) make sure that the DSL light is solid and not blinking.
3) if your computer already connected by a ETHERNET cable, try accessing the same ip address if your able to view the main screen of your 2wire modem it means that your computer will be able to connect to the internet.
4) try this also:
this for internet explorer:
click tools - connections - LAN settings
( if there's a tick mark on PROXY SERVER remove it )
if you do have tick mark on PROXY SERVER then your computer have a virus, because virus can put a tick on PROXY SERVER without you noticing it.
after removing the tick you will be able to connect to the internet again.

The minibook keep saying page can not be displayed or server not found

1) try check your connection first ( phone cable to your modem then ethernet cable from the modem to your router if your connected via wireless connection)
2) make sure that the DSL light on your modem is solid and not blinking.
3) check if your able to connect to the internet using a different browser if you have one.
4) if you have another computer try using it, if your able to connect it then try this.
5) if your using INTERNET EXPLORER:
click TOOLS - INTERNET OPTIONS - CONNECTIONS - LAN SETTINGS
under LAN SETTINGS if there's a tick mark on PROXY SERVER un-tick it. then click on OK then APPLY/OK then try connecting to the internet again.
if you do have a tick mark on PROXY SERVER then you have a virus on your computer, you should call your anti-virus support so that they will remove the virus for you.

Internet is so slow, can't open my yahoo and gmail

On occasion, when your router loses connection with your network, it OK to turn the router off for 20 seconds and turn it back on. It will go through a boot up sequence and return to lights on. Check your DSL light, if it's of your DSL connection is down.
If it's on, try your internet again.
If this doesn't work, download a good virus and spyware removal tool and run it full scan on your computer. It may be overrun with spyware or even a virus will cause this kind of problem.

Slow internet problem i think its my communications card

This document is GENERIC for all types of PC using XP or before. Step 1: Detecting and removing spyware and adware software If the computer becomes slow when connecting to the Internet, your home page changes to a page you do not want, unwanted desktop links display, or advertising windows pop up repeatedly, then your computer probably has spyware, or adware installed. Spyware and adware can be difficult to remove manually. See the following HP support document for more information about spyware and how to remove it from your computer: HP and Compaq PCs - About Spyware, Adware, and Browser Hijacking Software . Step 2: Scan and remove viruses It might be that a virus or several viruses are attempting to use the Internet connection when the browser is open. See the following HP support document for more information about how to scan and remove viruses: Resolving and Preventing Viruses on Your Computer . NOTE: If you have not updated Windows recently using Windows Update (in English), now is a good time; after scanning and removing spyware and viruses . Step 3: Clearing history, temporary files, and resetting settings Clear the amount of temporary files that the browser uses as follows:
  1. Open the browser software.
  2. Click Tools from the menu bar.
  3. Select Internet Options . The Internet Options window displays. Figure 1: Internet Options windowc00162617.jpg
  4. Click the General tab.
  5. In the Temporary Internet Files area, click Delete Files .
  6. Select Delete all offline content , and click OK .
  7. In the History area, click Clear History , and click OK .
  8. Click the Security tab, and select Default Level .
  9. Click the Content tab, and click Clear SSL State .
  10. Click the Programs tab, and click Reset Web Settings .
  11. Click the Advanced tab, click Restore Defaults , and then click OK .
  12. Connect to the Internet. If the computer stops responding, continue to next step.
Step 4: Update the network or modem drivers Updating the network and modem drivers can fix some lockup problems. Install the latest update for your network hardware that you use. Update the network hardware if you connect to the Internet using DSL, Cable, or LAN. Update the modem software if you connect using dial-up.
  1. Go to the HP Software download page . Select your country/region.
  2. Type the model name for your HP or Compaq computer. For example, SR1820NX or m7434n.
  3. Select the version of Windows the computer is using.
  4. Select the network or modem driver update. For example, Realtek RTL8139 LAN Driver Update.
  5. Follow the instruction on the download page to download and install the update.
  6. When done, restart and try to connect to the Internet again. If the problem persists, continue to the next Step.
Step 5: Disabling Software that opens with Windows For troubleshooting purposes, reduce the amount of software that opens with Windows to try and find out if a software conflict is occurring. Open the Microsoft System Configuration software (Msconfig), remove the selection next to Load Startup Items , click OK , and restart the computer. For more information, see Preventing Programs from Opening When Windows Starts . Connect to the Internet. If the computer stops responding, continue to next step. Step 6: Removing and reinstalling ISP and Anti-virus software Remove the Internet Service Provider (ISP) software and install the latest version. Use the document on Advanced Modem Troubleshooting for more information about how to remove and reinstall the ISP software. Regards, Shrey

Can you check if you have problems with your internet connection?
How about your browser? i recommend using mozilla firefox browser because i assure that it it the fastest browser.

If you have no problems with your internet connection probably you may want to check if your device are working properly.

Consider:
The type of Internet connection you use is the most important factor in determining your connection speed. The three most common ways to connect to the Internet from home are dial-up, DSL, and cable. If you have a choice, cable is usually the fastest, but both DSL and cable are faster than dial-up.

The health of your computer can affect your Internet connection.Spyware and viruses can definitely cause problems, but your Internet connection speed can also be affected by add-on programs, the amount of memory the computer has, hard disk space and condition, and the programs that are running.
Two of the most frequent causes of poor Internet performance are spyware and viruses. Spyware can slow your system by interfering with your browser and monopolizing your Internet connection. Spyware monitors your Internet use and keystrokes, which adds delays. The problem is compounded when there are multiple spyware programs running at the same time. If the problem is severe enough, you can lose connectivity altogether. To get your Internet performance back, you should regularly run an antispyware program to clean out any spyware infestation.

Computer viruses can also cause poor Internet performance. When a virus infects a computer, it installs computer code which will attempt to propagate itself, usually by sending copies of itself through e‑mail. Some viruses can multiply at the rate of hundreds of e‑mail messages per minute, which leaves little computing power and Internet connection bandwidth for anything else. Viruses often do not give any obvious indication that they are running, so it is best to run your antivirus software at all times.

Thank you : ) i hope my information works.
Please pm me if none of the options work. :)

Internet no longer working, but internal network is fine.

i agree with all the above.. it's definately clear as mud how the network is designed and or funtioning. The machines connected to the wireless d-link router.. are they via cat5 inthe wired ports or wireless ? is the server the machine thats connecting to the switch and wiress router and modem? i'd say reset all switches modems routers and machines.. shut them all down.. then fire the cable modem, then the wireless router then the desktop switch then the server, the workstations and the one lonely wireless.. run "ipconfig /all" on all machines and if they aren't all sharing common ips and access, provide the results here for further investigation.

Computer runs too slowly and ''grinds''

Depending on the situation, It could be you need more ram. If your running Windows Vista, 2-3 years old computers are probably coming with about 512mb-2 gb's or ram. In which case grab at least 3 gb's or ram and you'll be ok. If it's an xp system. grab at least 1gb or ram. Internet delay though could possibly be due to your ISP or perhaps a virus/spyware. There are certain viruses and spyware that slow down internet connection while leaving your pc running fast.
