Question about JVC Televison & Video

1 Answer

Black box covers most of the tv screen.

When we turn on tv, there is a brief moment of a station's programming, and then a black box appears covering all but about an inch all around of the show. As we change stations, the same thing happens, we see a brief 2-secs. of full screen programming and then the black box appears. Any ideas?

Thanks Rockitman187. That did the trick. I don't know how we hit the closed captioning button to begin with.
As soon as we hit the button, the black box disappeared.
    Thanks so much!

Just use the remote to turn off the closed captioning,The button should be marked as CC or you can just go into the menu and turn it off.

TV does not autotune to all stations and does not store stations

The set has a EPROM somewhere that stores that info--either a stand alone one or one incorporated into the microprocessor the set uses.

The tuner if bad likely will not cause it to "forget" stored channels.

A possible way AROUND this would be the use of a cable/sat box connected to rear inputs on the set---you would sit on that input and change channels via the box which can usually be programmed to skip up/down channels you do not want---straight around the issue.

Just today a black box has appeared on my screen. It appears in the top right hand corner of the Tv and is approximately 6 inches by 6 inches. I can see that it actually works as when there is movement on...

It sounds like you accidentally activated picture in picture with a dead station tuned in or a different input selected for the P.I.P.
Start around page 52 of the user manual for instructions on this.
Your manual is here:
http://www.fixya.com/support/p232474-panasonic_th_42xvs30u_42_in_hdtv_plasma/manual-8012#

If you turn off the PIP, everything should go back to normal.

Black box comes up on tv screen

The black box is a text box for closed captioning. Some stations send the signal which turns on the box while not actually broadcasting any text. Go into your setup menu and turn off closed captioning, or at least change it to a different mode. The easiest option is to restore factory presets.
