Re: hp vectra vl wont start xp, keeps trying to start...

Could you explain what are you booting from if like you said "no disk drive on this". What was the last thing the member of your family does on that PC? Any new installed programs, or hardware? Does the PC restarts itself after that "full circle" or stays frosen?

My Hewlett Packard Vectra VL PC has two usb ports but doesn't seem to have a driver.

Hello Vivian Elliott,

Without USB drivers the USB port will not get detected so install the suitable drivers of your motherboard. As you've said that yours PC is HP Vectra VL PC but u didnt mentioned the actual motherboard manufacturer and the operating system your using.

So once open the below link and select your operating system and download the suitable drivers.

If this solution solves your problem vote me.

Whant to know video card compatibility (spec) i whant to use my old hp vectra vl 400 as a living room pc on my 50'' plasma screen and i whant to have a s-video out sorry for my english iam french steve

Bonjour mon ami... I am in Nuve Zealand.. You are going to need an older type card, if memory serves it needs to be AGP, These are a little old for things there days, and while they will output to a TV, the quality is NOT going to be very good... But in saying that you still get acceptable results, i would guess you will use XP SP2, as your OS? This will drive any card you choose well. I have included a link below to help you choose an AGP card, that suits your purpose and price range.. Bon Chance

Computer will not read hard drive, at the startup it just says 0mb as if nothing was there, but everything else shows up and also it makes a clicking noise when turned on.

There are several possible problems to look for. It could be a faulty hard drive or your hard drive has bad sectors on it. If you have another hard drive try using a different hard drive.

I have anhp vectra type x86 family pc.with windows2000 professional software. my sister gave it to me and want set it back to it's original factory default set up. When I tried to use the operating system...

Your backup disk is just that, it is used as a boot disk to get your computer to re boot and start windows. It is not intended to reload windows on your computer, you have to get the windows installation disk and install that. Actually you can load any windows from 95 to Vista, if your computer can handle it. You can insert any windows disk and load that on your computer to get it to operate, then just upgrade to the windows you want. Good Luck.

Can't Install Windows XP SP2

Judging from the age of your machine, it could be a bad CD drive, a bad motherboard, or the hard drive may have failed. I'd start with the basics and remove the side cover.
Check to see if the processor cooling fan is turning if it has one. Also check the fan in the power supply. Remove and re-seat the memory modules.
