Question about HP Pavilion dv9000z Notebook
I own a new HP DV9000 Laptop Computer with a 17" monitor. I have not had any problems with it since I purchased it several months ago. Well today when I turned it on it started without any problems except one the Wireless connection never came online. I did several restarts I flipped the wireless switch several times still nothing. if I plug it directly into the DSL Modem the internet works fine but the Wireless capabilities are non existant. can anyone tell me what I can do to try and fix this issue my computer worked fine one day and then i turned it on and my wireless internet did not turn over the light stayed orange and did not turn blue to show that it is connected to the internet
This is not a solution, but it isn't helpless info either like "push the button all the way".. the thing with our laptops (dv9000) it's that our chipset, nVidia, it is often too hot for the motherboard, that makes something melt in it or something and stop working, unless you can get it fixed before everything else stop working you should get that fixed PRONTO. it's around $150,00 or call tech support cause i was told that some of this problems are being fixed by HP dependig on the purchase date .. right now i'm using a wireless internet d-link pendrive. try to get that fixed cause next thing it's going to stop working it's goig to be the entire motherboard.. and we don't want that to happen.. right?

Did the wireless icon from your machine light up? If no, you need to re-install your wi-fi driver. If you have the cds with you, re-install the driver then switched on your wi-fi. If you dnt have the cds, try checking on the HP site and look for the wi-fi driver.

I have been having the same problem. I reseated the wireless card after testing it on a different computer and that didnt work. So, i turned to the drivers. It ended up being the wirless assistant software being updated with a bad update. So, to fix it you have to go in and delete the wireless assistant software file completely. Then go to recovery and reinstall with the factory wireless assistant software. That should fix it.

This is jeffyeeusa again,
I think I'm going to have to side with wormy pro on this matter. I still had the same issue with my laptop the next day. I called hp and they verified that this is an issue affecting similar laptops. They will replace that motherboard and if you are not within warranty like me, it will cost you around $260 to replace. I have to bite the bullet because I depend on my laptop. You should be alright since you just purchased yours.

I also own an hp dv9000 laptop. I had a similar problem today. When I started up the laptop, the wireless on/off switch remained amber colored. The "wireless connection 2 status" icon and the "wireless assistant" icon had disappeared from the windows tray(bottom right). And worst of all, I lost the connection to the internet.
So here is what I tried....
I opened the> control panel. When I tried to open the >hp wireless assistant, it would not open (which I thought was strange).I tried restarting the computer, still nothing. Using my other computer, I went to hp's site, downloaded the hp wireless assistant software and reinstalled it on my hp laptop(lwhich is running Windows XP professional, sp3). Still no luck.
When I shut down both computers, removed the router's power and then the modem's power and restarted them in the reverse order, th e blue light reappeared, the wireless connection 2 status reappeared in the tray, I can open up the wireless assistant in the control panel, and most importantly I can connect to the internet again!
I'm not sure if I'll encounter the same problem again. I also do not understand why shutting down the network and restarting it solved the problem.
Hope this works for you.

I was on line with hp tech for 1 hr last night to try to resolve my wireless problem. I have an hp dv9000. He did tell me that there was a recall, however the recall program was over in 2/09. Naturally, my computer's wireless malfunctioned last week. He told me that hp posted a recall on their web site ( I guess I should have checked their web site every day the way I check my email !). HP did not notify consumers about this because I was told that not every dv9000 malfunctions.I have not had any problems with this computer thus far.Should I install a new wireless card? I tried updating the BIOS according to the technician, but that did not work.

I have the exact same issue with my laptop that is out of warranty.
here are some things i tried before phoning(none worked):
- flashing bios
- reformated from partition
- reformated from windows disc
- installed driver to multiple locations
- installed similar driver
- hp wireless assistant installed properly but wont load
I just phoned hp and they actually are going to 'try' to fix my problem for free. they sent me a pre-paid ups box that will be shipped to them directly.
I would suggest that anyone who has this problem phones hp tech support. This is a known issue for many models.
If anyone has anymore questions, please feel free to contact me,
