This could be the hard drive failure everyone doesn't want to see. If there are files on this drive that you have to have, I would quit trying to do anything with it till you can attempt to recover them. When a drive starts to fail there are some things you can do to get the files off before it melts down but the more you mess with it the less the chance that you can do that. You need someone with a 2.5 to 3.5 hard drive adapter that can boot up with this drive as a slave and get your files off of it that you need to save. Then you can put it back in the system and see if you can get it to work again. If the computer has trouble reading from the 2.5 in drive, shut it down and put it in the freezer for an hour and freeze the drive. this makes all the parts contract and become tighter and possibly help you read the drive again. If it reads then quits again then re-freeze it. Mean time you can go buy a new hard drive or get RMA numbers to send that one back on warranty. Hope this helps.

PXE == Pre Execution Environment

Your computer can "boot" from various devices:
* floppy-disk
* CD-ROM
* USB memory stick
* DVD drive
* hard-drive
* over the network

If you don't have a "network boot server" somewhere on your network, you will get that "boot failed" message.

Enter BIOS SETUP mode, and disable "PXE boot over network", and make sure that the hard-drive and/or the CD/DVD drives are listed as candidates to be eligible boot-devices.

press the one that says boot menu and then when it asks you where to boot choose the one that says hard drive. when that boots up and works. you need to restart your pc and press the f8 one to go into bios, then go to the boot tab, and change it to boot 1st from your hdd. somehow it got changed and it is looking somewhere else for the boot directions and its making errors

Hello higgstwiligh,

The above message is mainly informational and doesn't necessarily indicate a problem. The acronym 'PXE' stands for Preboot Execution Environment. It's an environment to bootstrap computers using a network interface card. Usually the reboot is done by a remote computer on a LAN (Local rea Network). The Realtek NIC (Network Interface Card) somehow expected a PXE boot to be taking place when the computer was restarting. One solution is to restart the computer and go to the boot menu (F2 on some systems) and choose to boot from the master drive.

*Here's a link to a good article explaining what PXE is: http://www.search.com/reference/Preboot_Execution_Environment

Upon booting I get this error. for realtek

PXE means Pre-Boot Execution Environment. You see this message when the laptop trying to boot from a remote server using the network card. If you didn’t see the PXE-E61 message before, it means that the network card was listed after the hard drive in the boot order (you can set the order in BIOS) and the laptop booted directly from the hard drive. Now, when the hard drive has failed, the laptop cannot detect it and tries to boot from the next available device – the network card. Your laptop is not configured to boot from a remote server using the network card, that’s why you are getting PXE-E61 Media test failure error.

You have to replace the hard drive and reinstall the operating system?

I’m almost positive that you have a bad hard drive. PXE means Pre-Boot Execution Environment.
If you didn’t see the PXE-E61 message before, it means that the network card was listed after the hard drive in the boot order (you can set the order in BIOS) to start your system from harddisk.

when the hard drive has failed, the system cannot detect it and tries to boot from the next available device – the network card. Your system is not configured to boot from a remote server using the network card, that’s why you are getting PXE-E61 Media test failure error. You have to replace the hard drive and reinstall the operating system.
