the lines are sharp and stationary, there are fifteen on the 28 inches of the screen. starting at the top they are 1 inch wide for the first third narrowing from the right hand to half an inch for the second third the returng to 1 inch wide for the last third. there are three rectangular shapes clipped in the first third and two rectangular shapes clipped in the last third, little bit like a train ticket punch. some but not all of the pixels appear to flicker.

                           regards

It is inside your controller board, it would be very tricky to repair cause you will be unplugging connectors , have that board reheat , re soldered if problem still persist you have to replaced the entire controller board,i would rather suggest have an experienced qualified authorize technician to handle this, if still in warranty have them informed the trouble your having they will send one for you, or inform where you bought the unit of the problem they might have suggestions for you.and if warranty is already expired be ready to look for the controller board replacement in case repairing the board wont help. if you want to do it for yourself ready your camera, multimeter and a lot of patience, record or have a picture of original connections so that you can bring it back later from which it is being connected.a notepad where you can record what are you doing, and the parts that will be replaced it would be like in intensive care unit. hope this help, thanks for using fixya!

Hi Richard. You need to describe these lines better. Are they moving or stationary? Are they very fine lines with sharp edges or are they more like bands with soft edges? How many lines do you see, and how wide are they (compared to the screen width)?

Fine lines that are stationary: defect in the electronics causing a vertical row of pixels to be dead or stuck. Can only be fixed by replacing major parts.

Broad lines with soft edges that move: could be electrical "hum" interference. Make sure you are using a grounded (3-pin) power plug, and that the outlet is properly wired. (Take the TV to a another location and see if the problem goes away).

Make sure you don't have fluorescent light fixtures nearby--they can interfere with the picture if the bulbs or ballast is defective. Also try with or without a surge protector, depending on what you have hooked up now and see if that makes a difference. Otherwise you might have some dry joints and require a professional to check it and fix it. Let me know if you have further questions.

You should check out the RCA cables the red yellow and white ones connected to your tv from your cable box, or the Blue Green and Red component cables. If those are fine it might be just static due to bad connection from satellites...

Vertical lines

IF the area of the OSD (on screen display) displays the same vertical blue lines as the rest of the screen, then it is most likely the optical block assembly at fault. It's part number is A1606006A and should cost close to $2,000. I'm assuming the set is out of warranty. I know many people are hooked on Sonys, but as a technican that works on them, I wouldn't want one in my home.
