Question about Kenwood KDC-X692 Car CD/ MP3 Player

1 Answer

Deck shuts off, when loud, while idling or at stop lights.

My Kenwood KDC-x692 turns off and then back on when at high volumes. This only happens when i am either idling at a light or coming to a stop, in other words, when the gas is not depressed. I have set all levels to -8db and it still shuts down when sitting. I can have it as loud as i want when i'm on freeway and such. Also, i can turn the subwoofer level up all the way without effecting the deck, but when the levels for non-subs are raised it will shut down at a lower volume level. I didn't have the problem as much in the winter but now that i use the AC it is constant! Lights don't dim or anything, it just shuts off! I went to an audio place here with the same problem on my old deck(kenwood also) and they just had me get this new deck.... well, it worked for a while and it now does the same thing! I didn't have the problem at first, so i never took it back in and now they say its too late.... I think it has something to do with not getting enough juice to the deck when the alternator isn't spinning fast enough. Would a capacitor fix this or is that stored power only available for use by the amp? Please help, very frustrating having it cut out at every light!!!

First, thanks for the reply Yourcoins. If it is overheating why doesn't it do it while driving? And it doesn't go into protection mode or it would display the protect mode and be frozen until reset. I don't want it any louder than it is in regular use while i'm driving. If i want to go louder i would consider a 4 channel but thats not what i'm after at the moment. I just want it to be able to hold the music through a light or idling. Instead, i have to turn it down at lights and back up once i'm moving to avoid the shutoff.

Kenwwod is telling me alternator needs to be higher amp but i read on crutchfield that can't help below 1000rpm anyhow...? i am so confused!

You are working your deck to hard, it is overheating and shutting down (protection mode) You like it loud, you will need a 4 channel amp. Also check the ground on your deck to ensure it has a nice connection.

How Do i Turn on The LOUD option on my kenwood KDC-MP205

Unless you turned it off, Kenwood radios automatically have the loud turned on when the radio is first powered up.

We just installed the Kenwood KDC-X692 in our 1993 BMW 740il. The tuner works, but the CD has no sound and the AUX doesn't work either. I'm also confused on the bluetooth ready but lack of instructions...

i'm assuming you are going through an amplifier. if so it sounds like you are using the blue wire instead of the blue/white wire to turn the amplifier on. i can't really help you with the bluetooth though.

Losing power

mine does this too, I have the deck on my boat and on land the deck cuts out when a bass line hits or loud music comes in, cuts out at about 20 on the volume level, however, when on the water and the motor is running, my voltage is up to 14 vdc or so.. At this point, I can crank the deck up to 30-37, and it will scream , doesnt cut out or lose power just rocks. I have heard that kenwood decks are competition stereos and require 14-16vdc, but I have never found any proof of this. One thing you can do is order a battery from summitracing.com that runs higher than 12vdc. But then again im just speculating

Kenwood new sterio shuts off when turning up volume

You may have a short in a speaker. Check to see that the wire terminals on the speaker itself aren't touching any metal. Even 1 terminal touching metal will cause issues. Hope this helps.
